plugged in my iPod a little while ago and finally decided to click yes to upgrade the firmware. Well, little did I know they'd reformatting my iPod and ALL the music is gone! That is very annoying but to make matters worse, I had previously deleted all the music I had bought from them from my PC so I don't have that either. There is no way in hell I'm going to spend all that money again so I contacted iTunes to see what they can do. If I had know they'd be formatting the stupid thing I wouldn't have upgraded the firmware, it worked fine anyway. I'm pissed like nobody's business.

That does indeed suck, but fair warning to all, ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR MUSIC!!! Never trust the dang ipod with, in many cases, thousands of dollars worth of songs. Never. Always backitup. Been there, done that. Even having to change a hard drive can get you in to trouble. Burn 'em to DVD or a spare drive.
Backup backup backup :)
Sorry, June. I know it's a pain.

Nope, they don't let you re-download. Or at least they didn't a few months ago.

wow sorry to hear that you are going through that, thats never happened to me I always update my iPod whenever there is a new update. Did you update your iPod on the computer that you use daily to purchase or listen to you music, if so your music should still be in the itunes library and if so just resync your ipod
oops I just read that you deleted all of your music and if so its gone nothing you can do. The way the iPod works is by default to automatically update your iPod according to whats in your itunes library. So like whht happened to you.... if nothing is in your music folder it will delete everything from your iPod. Now in the future you can tell the iPod that you will manually manage your music and then it wont automatically update anymore.

Just as well. It was probably all 80's pop anyway. |

Dang, dude, what's wrong with you? 80s pop is the best. It's that junk made after 2000 that needs to be ditched...
Well, actually, 80s rock is best... GNR, BonJovi, Motley Crue, RATT, Van Halen, rock on baby... |

Actually, I was being facetious - I love 80's stuff myself. Madness, Prince, The Bangles, Tiffany... errrr... ;-) |

Oh shiz! Sorry to hear that. I know my wife & I have invested a lot of time and dollars into our library. It's time for me to throw an extra HD into her PC and and set it to backup.

Not sure if it'll work...but see if you can find anyone who bought the same songs and can send you their files?
Perhaps then the songs will play since they're authorized purchases. I do not know, I've never experimented with doing so. But it's the only idea I could think of trying.

Sadly your not mad at iTunes.... iTunes is a program (minor sm for a service). Your mad at apple. ITunes doesnt make the ipod and iTunes doesnt release the firmware even if it was avalioable for download thru itunes.
Just to get technical. You download your music from Apple through iTunes via the iTunes music store! |

Well, I have to say that I'm pleased with iTunes customer service. They have allowed me to re-download the songs but not before telling me that this is a one time only thing. To be honest, I wasn't really expecting this, just wishing. I've learned my lesson.

Congrats Maybe theyll one day let me play my music i bought while i was with aol and used my aol account to login to itunes.... i sadly cant authorize that music anymore.
I always either DRM strip or burn to CD and reimport any music i buy to prevent that from happening again. |

Why would your delete your music without backing it up?
Sound more like an operator error then itunes problem. |
