But I do wish all who enter best of luck.

Thanks for the moral support Rich! I think I'll be re-shooting mine. In retrospect, I'm not too happy with the lighting.... Besides it's another excuse to see my wife naked again! ;-)

I've literally had one idea for Personification. Will have to do some serious thinking about this one.

As for the WPL site, also having some trouble signing in, could be that I'm using the incorrect password...

Edit to add:

According to Wikipedia:

"Personification, or personification anthropomorphism is a figure of speech that gives non-humans and objects human traits and qualities.(EX: the bear was talking to the little girl) These attributes may include sensations, emotions, desires, physical gestures, expressions, and powers of speech, among others. As a figure of speech it has a very long history; its Greek name is prosopopoeia. Examples include: "The pencil flew out of my hand", "The tree jumped into the road in front of my car", and "With an evil scowl, the stormcloud thundered its disapproval". Personification is widely used in poetry and in other art forms.

Personification's treatment of inanimate objects is very similar to the figure of speech called the pathetic fallacy; the key difference is that personification is direct and explicit in the ascription of life and sentience to the thing in question, whereas the pathetic fallacy is much broader and more allusive. Another related rhetorical device is apostrophe; this entails not speaking about, but speaking to, a personified entity or an absent person. All these tropes should be understood as separate from anthropomorphism, which ascribes human attributes to any non-human entities, in particular to animals and other creatures. These animals or creatures cannot actually do the verb that it is given.

An example of personification can be found in John Keats's "To Autumn," the fall season is personified as "sitting careless on a granary floor" (line 14) and "drowsed with the fume of poppies" (line 17), and John Donne's Holy Sonnet X, in which death is personified as a "slave to fate, chance, kings and desperate men" (line 9), and "poor" (line 4).

Personification is also widely used by individuals and mass media outlets when describing the actions of governments or corporations. Such as, "U.S. Defends Sale of Ports Company to Arab Nation" [1] or "Microsoft embarrassed one final time over SP2". [2] Personification is frequently employed in media headlines and cartoons.

Many familiar phrases and images employ personification -- for example, "blind justice"."

Hope this helps generate some ideas...

Hey Kat,

Scott had actually closed down the website because he did not have the experience needed to run the website and was having a difficult time as one person keeping up with it and trying to learn all the coding to create the website. I believe that when he shut it down he erased all user data as well and you have to re-register. Then everything should be fine.

As for the challenges, remember the open ones announced today are also fair game.

Har ye Pirates!

How are all doing in the personification challenge? Mine seems to suck, or the voters just don't get it.
02/05/2007 08:04:50 AM · #171
well my camera to a SH*T. So i had to borrow my buddies. Not alot of time to work on anything and i guess the score will show that 5.0 but at least i have an image entered and will get some sort of points for the team. Dont really want to spend to much time outside since its like -20 wind chill. Good luck to everyone.

My Personification score is on the rise...
but I'm still disappointed *sulk*
I really thought it would be in the '6s' but it's around the 5.5 range right now. Hopefully it's still early and the score will improve.
Go get 'em Pirates!!! Arrrr!

Well.

I got in on the Bad Challenge.. Hopefully the name of the challenge doesnt reflect the score. At least I have my fingers crossed that it doesnt. I have been biting my nails this whole week becuase I am not very creative about things and have just been trying to come up with ideas. Geezem I hope this thinking thing gets easier.

Well, my personification is an all time low score.... sucks!

I have a pretty good idea for the veggie challenge, just have a lot of set up to do with lighting it properly and then need some pretty awesome timing.

I'll try my hand at the music challenge, looks like a fun one.

Still getting some inspiration for the free study, but I do like them.
