My PC at work has over 100GB of data on it, shared by the office. I've been getting disk errors in Event Viewer lately and chkdsk is at the end of its rope. Got this warning yesterday, so I'm here today with a new HD. wahoo

The crapping HD is partitioned into an OS drive and a data drive, both with errors. Six months ago, just as a precaution, I set the PC to make ghost images of each partition to a slave HD every night. I never thought I'd actually have to use them. Hopefully I'll have a quick fix.

Wish me luck, I hate to have things like this chisel in on my goofing-off time.

Well, at least somebody cares, thanks Linda, you are officially the only person on this website who is not on my shit-list. As for the rest of you bastards, you can kiss my arse.

So both drives seem to be nicely recovered onto a new HD. I'm usually anti-bloatware like Norton, but Norton Ghost saved me some extra trouble. It sure is easy to use.

I vote "bad" but now that you've shown us you can't use it! :P

Time for a new storage solution? ;)

Well, I was going to say if that 100Gb of data is worth anything it might be worth investing in a proper server to hold it. For backups, reliability and performance. Rack servers are really cheap these days as well (you don't have to worry about buying a monitor)

Heh I just bought a 500 GB drive and upon installing it, all my software, music, video, photos, and crap.

Ive already filled 115 GB. Its okay before my 250GB drive died I had it filled and i can easily do it in a week.

My 250 died during a backup without warning, i woke up to the smell of a burnt hard drive controller.

God Luck

I suggested that to the boss. I've pulled things from the ashes before, and for some crazy reason he prefers to rely on that. I used to care, sadly, his attitude has changed me so that I just don't care anymore. The good news is, because I don't care, I am quite stress-free!
