Well, I'm afraid that my gut feeling is that she wouldn't have gotten the response she got had she not CC'd them. Your gut reaction is different. Unfortunately we have no way of proving which of our gut reactions would have been reality...
I'm sorry I feel this way, and I wish I could feel confident that she would have gotten a swift response without that, but frankly I'd be surprised if that would have been the case. |

If indeed yours is the prevalent view in law enforcement I can only say that I also am sorry... sorry that what was once a noble profession has seemingly regressed to the point that they are no longer trusted to tend to their tasks.
That being said, I would urge Cindi to inquire with the authorities as to what actions are being undertaken to ensure that something of this nature does not reoccur.

I'm glad your kids are OK and nothing really bad happened.
Hopefully you'll get some kind of roadside assistance plan and not rely on the police to handle something as mundane as a flat tire. To me, that's the really irresponsible act.

You misunderstand, and perhaps should read back. As I stated before and in my original post, I asked her to call the FHP NOT to change her tire, but protect them until the tire got fixed. 2 young girls on the side of the highway at night, changing a tire or waiting for roadside assitance or whatever is dangerous - especially where they were. FHP are there for precisely that reason and even their own representative encouraged the public to use *FHP to call the state troopers any time you have distress on the roadways and they can help you get assistance. Remember too.... Highway patrol is not "regular" police, though they do many of the same tasks. Their main priority is safety on the highways.
Edit: FHP = Florida Highway Patrol (also called state patrol)

Again, I will say that I fully support police, and I have complete respect for what they do. I could not do what they do.
Having said that, I can cite two examples in recent years where I haven't been able to "trust them to tend to their tasks." I was in a hit & run accident several years ago, and the police wouldn't even come to the scene of it unless there were injuries. Thanks for the help! I had to track down the people who hit me myself, and finally found an officer who was nearby (the driver wasn't even licensed).
And I have neighbors a few houses down who literally fight out on their deck on a daily basis, using every obscenity in the book -- meaning that I have to keep my 8-year-old daughter inside the house to avoid subjecting her to it. And it took 6 years and 13 calls to get them cited for disorderly conduct.

I still question your expectation of rapid response, but maybe next time, they'll scramble the SWAT team.
If their situation was indeed dire, and nothing happened for 90 minutes, why not call again? Not that they should have to, call again, but still...
The dispatcher should have called the wrecker, that was irresponsible.
So too, is sending a teenage driver out on the road without some type of roadside assistance.

Originally posted by idnic: The story just aired. They did a nice job, they interviewed the FHP spokesman who admitted their mistakes and appologized, but assured the public that it was uncommon, showed the actual spot on the highway where the kids broke down and several clips of me or Savanah saying something relevant. They totally spun it as a 'warning for others and lesson learned'. Other than the fact that I sound like a hick!, it went well! :) As soon as it hits the news' website I'll link it.
Rob, the kids' dad doesn't drive and I was more than 45 minutes away and thought a state trooper could get there within moments since they were on the highway, I seriously thought FHP would be much faster than I could be. |
just watched it on my dvr, nice job. |

Ray,
I just wanted to make sure that you don't walk away hurt. clearly you or someone you love very much is involved in law enforcement. I would like to apologize if anything I said was a little too personal, though I do stand by it. We never intended to cast a dark light on law enforcement, we were simply discussing the matter at hand.

Interesting that the article says motorists can dial *FHP and they will send the appropriate help. |

I guess they're trying to assure the public that the *FHP service does work, regardless of our situation.

I'm sure that's what they are doing. The statement just seemed awkward as written. |

That was always the come back argument (and yeah, it could be me or someone I know) - No, it would not change my mind. It's all about risk assessment & mitigation. As for reporting police - lol that is just funny :-) Glad they appear to be doing something in Cindi's case, see what happens.

Not a problem Joe... as Bear_Music (Robert) so aptly pointed out, I failed to understand the terms you used, and gave them a meaning that was not yours.
I totally misunderstood "Honesty" in the context you were using and because of that railed. I have learned something from this and that is that terminology certainly has a variety of interpretations, and I will in future ensure that I have a full appreciation of what the author meant before I proffer an opinion.
Thank you for your input and consideration in the matter at hand... and my apologies for making an inference that truly was not there.
