Do enlighten me... just where in the OP's initial comments have you managed to find one scintilla of evidence that the police were not "Honest". Generalizations of this nature do little to solve the problem at hand and are certainly NOT reflective of what transpired in the present case.

Were the police derelict in their duties... probably, but that sir is a quantum leap from being dishonest.

'everything happens for a reason'

First, i am incredibly happy to know your babies are alright! That said, maybe this ends up being several blessings in diguise. You and your girls have learned something, the FHP gentlemen has an opportunity for improvement, AND you may get some free publicity out of this. (PLEASE forgive me if that sounds opportunistic - it isn't meant quite that way). I'm just saying that, BECAUSE you wrote the letter in a professional manner, there may be unexpected benefits.

You always seem eager to help others, and now it may be time for others to help you...what comes around, goes around Cindi.

BTW - we know you're (rightfully) proud of your bum, and you like to focus on it, but I don't think they'll be pointing THEIR camera at that end! lol

we wish you well, ms penrod!

Ray,

"Keep 'em honest" is a phrase that is frequently used without reference to moral issues of honesty/dishonesty. In sports, in particular, you will often see maneuvers designed to "keep the defense honest" or whatever. I don't think he meant anything extreme by it; it just means "keep them on their toes", ya know?

thats good, I'm glad to hear it's all working out ok. I'm a 20 year old guy, and I love that you are so protective of your girls. my grandfather told me once, that the strongest hins in the hin house grow up with the meanest moms. (he is a farmer) not that you are being meing, a mean hin is another way to say a protective hin.

I don't know if your girls are resenting you for this, but even if they are kudos to you for being the mother you are. I'm sure there are a ton of children in the world that would kill just to have a mom, if your girls are resenting you, it might be time to remind them of that.

Very glad to hear that your girls were safe.

I can't help but wonder whether you would have had any response from the patrol had you not CC'd the news outlets.

Well! .... Since the media contacted the FHP, the FHP decided to do their investigation NOW rather than over the next week. An officer just called me and told me what they discovered so far....

Savanah called at 7:56pm, an officer was in the area and was dispatched to go find her (they did NOT dispatch a wrecker). The officer drove a loop of about 4 miles at at 8:24 called dispatch to say "Couldn't locate" and signed off on the call. At 8:30 the same officer was called out of the area to deal with an officer shooting. Dispatch had a call back number for Savanah, but did not call her back to get more information or to tell her that there was no longer an officer available. Dispatch did not send a wrecker.

At 9:20 Savanah changed the tire herself and drove home.

FHP's media rep. (the guy who just called) appologizes for their oversights and assures me that we did all of the right things. We called the right department, and we had every reason to expect assistance.

So bottom line.... they dropped the ball and are embarrased.

I'm guessing probably not, or at very least not so quickly.

so what happens now? did they offer anything to compensate for your troubles?

I hope they don't have a police levy on the ballot anytime soon

Well, I hope the news stations do a story about it. Their non-response is really inexcusable, and you may have helped save a life somewhere if this jolts them into being a little more vigilant in the future.

You could go a long way in the eyes of many if you state on camera, that the constabulary is in fact in close contact with you and doing their best to rectify any *human* error on their part.

It'd be good if you pointed out to the newsies that you aren't interested in crucifying anyone.....and that you hope they will not selectively edit anything that would change the context of how you stated your position.

You did say that the FHP did on fact call you back and follow up on the situation and I was kind of getting that they were in fact interested in what could have been a mistake on their part.

You may need the cops someday!

Oh I definitely don't plan to crucify anyone. The two FHP officers I've spoken with today have both been very appologetic and seemed genuinely concerned about my daughters. They didn't INTENTIONALLY neglect my kids, it just happened. I get that. But... at the same time, it DID happen and I hope the news crew lets me explain my position from the view of a worried mother. Mistakes can happen, but I sure don't like it when they happen to MY kids!!

Gotta be careful about that......you don't know what happened.

Cindi stated that she was told that the officer who was sent out was reassigned to an officer shooting.

If it was YOUR wife, husband, son, daughter that was the officer shot, wouldn't you want that officer to let the flat tire go?

There should have been someone else, like the elusive wrecker dispatched, but it's going to be very hard to not have this come out wonky for Cindi if the newsies spin it wrong......and they have a really bad habit of spinning it for maximum shock value.

Warm and fuzzy doesn't sell, murder and mayhem do.....think anyone wants to hear Cindi's take on how the police are following up an error, or are they going to talk about how those poor little girls were abandoned in the night?

God knows, as a father of a young lady of twelve, I want my daughter safe and to know that she'll be gone after if she's by the side of the road, BUT.....she, like Cindi's daughter, will be able to change a tire, in case, for whatever reason, help is not on the way!

Because I'm her Dad, and I want to make sure my little girl can be self-sufficient in all but the most dire circumstances, she'll be okay, but I still trust the Highway Patrol in most cases.

I just want to clear this up here, I am in no way not supporting of police. I just want to make sure that they do their jobs. afterall, in this sitution it all came out to be ok, but what if it didn't. what if there is a next time and this were to happen again and next time it's somehow life threating?

I don't think that the police see this in a negitive light, if I am a high up in a company and someone below me makes a mistake I want to know about it. not because I want to crucify them, but I want to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Better you than me Cindi, I will keep my fingers crossed and sacrifice a ham sandwich to the gods for you to have this come out right.

(NOTE: Virgins are so damn hard to find, and the animal rights people get all up in arms if you sacrifice a lamb or something, so a ham sandwich it is!)

Again we seem to jump at conclusions.

Perhaps I missed it, but in her letter to the Florida Highway Patrol, I don't recall Cindi mentioning that she had CC'd a copy of her email to the media, albeit she did make reference to a CC in response to GIJoe's comments.

If she didn't mention it... are we to be absolutely agog that they did respond... Good lord folks, if that is your general line of thinking about law enforcement agencies in your area, you are either very critical or you police agencies are in a dire need of a major overhaul.

yes she did CC it to the media as well. when you send an email is says who else it is sent to.

and our canadian RCMP could get a good overhaul here and there too!
