Is there an external 5D battery anywhere out there? I'm taking long exposure night shots and it eats up the batteries like nobody's business

ETA or did you mean something for use in the middle of nowhere?

Nice. But what if I'm out in the middle of nowhere and there isn't an outlet for miles?

I'm pretty sure the 30D battery grip fits the 5D.
also, Quantum I think makes a power adapter from their batts to a 5D (or most any other camera or flash).

the best solution for you may depend on where you're shooting... if you are shooting truly remote, then something like the Quantum Turbo system would seem to be a good option, though expensive. An alternative, if you will be remaining near a vehicle, would be the Canon AC adapter and a power inverter running off of the vehicle's battery. You could also run the power inverter off of a smaller 12V lead-acid battery and carry the battery into the field, if the distance is short enough. Batteries intended for lawn equipment often have carry handles.
