I replied TWO messages to the "Team spirit!!!" Topic for lots of GOOD/BAD ideas for the challenges named as such.

I'd keep main subject focused and background blurred or darker or desaturized to b/w, to deemphasize the Main-Subject. Usually 1-3 items plus a background puts "Focus/Emphasis" on the Main subject. More would distract.

Team spirit!!! dsterner's message post.

Thank you Deb! I was pretty darn excited with how things turned out. However, not really sure if I am going to have the same luck this week. I probably put too much time into my personification entry - so who knows how that will go. Not planning on spending much time on the "bad" entry - so it will probably do better lol.

Everyone ready for the WPL?

OK! I'm in for Personification. A last minute effort...
02/05/2007 01:35:49 AM · #205
me too! and one of us (motley Crew) gave me a generous vote and a comment!!! I guess I'm not so bad after all
02/05/2007 01:39:18 AM · #206
I am not doing good so far... so I am not sure if I will be much help in this challenge this week! Going to bed with a 5.28 - so I am scared to see what it will be in the morning.

Deb - awesome that you are getting comments! I usually do all my category voting first, then bump ups and downs, and then make comments.
Hope I catch you guys with the right scores and comments! lol

4.33, but I am happy... the comment made it worth the entry given it was last minute - just to get in the mix. Maybe it will go up?

I hope this doesn't jinx it... Im getting 6.8 with 15 votes! woohoo

Gooooo Teresa! Whooo!

Well my score is out of it for the WPL this week - dropped like a rock over night lol. I didn't learn my lesson about really studying the previous challenge.

Now i need to go fix my "Bad" entry. Yipes!

Hope you all are doing better than me!

i think i need to over-lighten my images for challenges. the Mac shows so much more detail and is much brighter than PCs. must be the nature of the video cards.

i now have a new low with Personification!

sorry guys, it's hard to get creative when it's so frickin cold out.

I was outside shooting Sunday before sunset, I'm safe and my 70-200 VR lens is safe, but I broke my 67mm circular polarizer (loss is $100). I'm sorry I missed the deadline, but I entered a similar shot in the "Bad" challenge. Maybe it'll do better then the personification.

Our thermostat seems to be not working right, so I'm waiting for the repairman. Its about 50 degrees-F, I have three electric radiators going. Now this BAD, too. I hope it doesn't get worse.

I reviewed all of the Pers..., and I think I'll vote since I didn't enter it. I've already picked out the top six of my favorites, and I usually pick a ribbon holder as one of them. Maybe it will be one of yours.

Sorry about the filter... I once had that happen to me two times on one trip. at least your lens is intact! oh, yeah... and you too.

Swweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet lol my guy has a twin! I don't know why I picked that one. It just looked goofy and seemed to work. Now we can see this guy bouncing around the forums - in sync! lol

LOL!!! I liked the fingers - my students tease me about being "ghetto" because I live in a rural area - they call it "A town" (Angola village name) and they make me do those 2 fingers upside down when I get made at my homeroom
02/05/2007 07:27:06 PM · #218
you know - how very odd that you brought that up. i live in a smaller town too - grew up in a bigger city - but that really doesn't have much to do with what i am gonna say here - i just like to digress.

I was teaching the one night last week and I was trying to emphasize some word so I did the - raise my hands and do the quote thing (you know - two fingers, each hand). Well I swear for some reason - they got a kick out of that and were teasing me all night and "quoting" my actions lol. And these are adults! So I guess everyone is the same on some level in a class room.

I was trying to find a smiley that matched what i was describing but cannot find it. Will have to look for one!

I hear ya, my kids me mock me all the time. They love my little oddities and torture me all the time about them, especially about my rural life.

My Good photo scores are not as good, yet. I know I could've done better and I will. Votes: 31, Views: 38, Avg Vote: 4.8710

Okay, finally this evening I'm working on our Team Logo/Cards (in a heated house).

Next week's Basic-Editing is both affiliated with school, I know some teamates have been in them lately, or at sometime in their life. The photo doesn't have to be taken in a school but it can be. It just has to have a couple of main subjects that symbolize/represent an event, emotion, story, or something stated about the topic.

If any of you have real live models for any photo and they know you have taken their photo you should always get a written "Model Release", sometimes, even if it's a relative.
Here are some DPC Forum links: What about releases?, Model releases, and this one has outside links to examples Image Usage Agreements/Contracts.
