How about showing the non-HDR version to help us appreciate what was accomplished by using HDR techniques?

That helps a lot! The original appeared "as if" it could have been done without HDR. But now that I've seen the four originals, it's obvious that the candle was so bright that you could not get any detail in the shadow area without using HDR.
