Here is a picture of the moon I took the other night while playing with my camera. I know the moon is not anything special but let me know what you think. Keep in mind I am new to photography.

Thanks Jeremy

I know it is a basic shot. Do you need a special lens to shoot the moon or will my 300mm be enough.

Thanks Jeremy

300 or a 500 is good. 500 being better. Most moon shots with dSLR's are actually not using a lense but using a telescope adapter.

Shot with an S5000 the lense at full tele is equiv to a 35mm 300mm lense.

300mm can produce pretty decent pics at 100%.
Crop it and play with different sharpening modes and techniques.

Here's a 100% cropped section I shot with my 70-300mm hand-held.

I haven't tried my Celestron lately, this is from 2005:

I should give it another try soon...

Let me ask you guys. I have tried on several clear sky ocaisions to shoot with the s5000, yall can see my example. Full Zoom, Full es, Clear Sky. Ive worked every shutter speed in the camera. Im gonna give a second try at manual aperture priority to get mor edetail.

Outside of that.

DO all most SLR's connect to Most Telescopes. Is there anyway to connect big xoom non SLR's like the Fuji S5000 or S6000 series to one?

Im just looking for a better shot of the moon without having to take a huge hit in the pocket.

this was from last summer ... wish we'd get a clear night here in Detroit sometime soon, it's all hazy and gray in the winter around here ...

Telescope adapters seem to me like a lot of trouble. I think more are shot with regular lenses than you might think, rainmotorsports :)

Cropping for the web makes it a lot bigger, but printing on a big scale really does want a 400 or 500mm. This was with a 300 and cropped a good bit...

For some reason it dont like the file number so I can't show you the shot.

I think the horizon is a little off.
Gordon has a good tutorial on how to fix it.

This swa sshot ona tripod with a clear sky at a 300MM equiv with a 6 MP camera lets cut through fuji's crap pile and call it a 3.1. Either way the detail sucked lol. I shot it 3 times so far all the pics look like this except the ones at slower shutter speed which lack even more detail due to brightness.
