Hey yall!

I have been working with raw for quite a while now, and really love it. But somehow I cant shake the feeling that I am missing some steps. Here is what I normally do:

Open the RAW file in PS CS2 RAW
Play with the WB and maybe minamal adjustments to contrast, exposure etc.

Then take it into photoshop

Levels,
Curves,

But i am a little stumped on sharpening it. What is the trick here? Should I do the sharpening while I am working with the preliminary PS RAW, or should i use USM once i start editing the psd file?

Thanks,

Pihl

Sharpening really should wait untill last. It is dependant on the final resolution. There is a feature in the raw converter that allows the sharpening to appear as preview only but, doesn't actually apply it.
I have used a small amount of sharpening in the raw conversion, then use the unsharp mask once I am ready to outut the file. Seems to work well. Try and do as much in the raw converter as possible, output a 16 bit final continue working as a 16 bit, and convert down to 8 if there are features you can't access or need to save to jpeg etc.

Don't neglect the curves function etc in raw. The only reason I use curves and levels after the raw converter would be for processing that would exceed a 'standard' processing.

Camera Raw automatically puts a 25% (whatever that is) sharpen on it click the second tab if u want to back the sharpening off its the slider above luminescence smoothing
