Ok...too late in the day to contact the people who control my website. I know my domain name is in good standing but when you click on my address www.juliabailey.com Some crazy thing totally unrelated pops up.
Does anyone know what causes this? |

Looks like your domain registration expired yesterday. Depending on who you've registered with, there may be a grace period where they'll allow you to reclaim it. Also depending on who you've registered with, they may charge you a fat fee for not renewing on time. Your best bet is to get in touch with your registrar and see what they can do. |

Yup - there was activity yesterday 1/31, so likely it ran out. Talk to them NOW as you might be lucky BUT it looks like it has been renewed for 1 year, so might have been taken.

I did a whois it seems the registration is still in your name. Domains expire after a year unless you registered them longer. Hopefully its still yours alot of places give u up to 60 days and then after 90 it goes back tot he public.
Renew it before it goes public because once ownership is "released" someone else can purchase it for misue or whatever they like.
This is a link to the whois i did. As is said it seems to still be in your name It says it expires Jan 30, 2008. The other thing might be did u pay ur server bill latley?

this happened to me a bit ago. companies have bots that scoop up domains as soon as they expire and then offer them for "sale" back to you at incredibly jacked up prices.
contact your domain registrar. there are laws against "cybersquatting," but you're most likely looking at a lawsuit to get it back.
after a year they will most likely give up, but that's a long wait for you. :( |

The domains status is locked with client transfer prohibited. ALOT of hosts do this to prevent this from happening for the first 90 days. ALso witht he expiration 1 year from now its hard to say either direction.
But if her host put a client transfer prohibited or a lock on it then no one could have transfered or bought it as the host would have had the rights to it first. I know that only makes half sense. The question is who is your host I can tell u if its still registered with them or not. Your personal info is still on the contact though.

it takes 48 hours for all of the contact information to trickle throughout the system, so it may still have your contact information up there. |

ARRRRRRRGH!!! When you pay a service to host your site and build the site etc etc... a professional service..dont they renew the domain??? |

Creation date: 30 Jan 2003 15:19:20
Expiration date: 30 Jan 2007 15:19:20
:(
the "grace period" only works if someone isn't waiting to get the domain. if someone has backordered it, it's theirs as soon as the expiration date hits.
(disclaimer: i just grabbed one myself this way...but it was my own name) |

Um only to a certain extent login to your control panel... if you dont have one your host bits really bad. I can have my host do a design for me pay them i still have control of my domains when to reregister where to point them to.

Did you look at the "why am I seeing this site" link at the bottom? They want you to buy it back. |

Unfortunate. It looks like www.enom.com are squatting on it.
I lost a domain like this about 5 years ago. If you approach them to buy it back, expect the first offer to be in the region of $1200. The reason they pick $1200 is because this is roughly how much it would cost you to go to arbitration and get it back. The next offer you'll see will be about $700. (Well, that was the general pattern when it happened to me)
I gave up in the end. It didn't make sense to pay that much to get it back. It was a pain getting all my letterheads and business cards changed. 5 years later and they're still squatting on the domain. :-/ |

Yes. They don't care who they sell it to as long as they sell it. |

Well, the squatter prices might have changed since I was screwed over. Although you can be guaranteed that if they know someone is interested in the domain that it won't be cheap.
And yes, they'll sell it to anyone who'll pay.
On the bright side (if there is one, I do sympathise believe me I was in shock for weeks afterwards, it's (£*%$&£ infuriating) - At least your website will still be there somewhere on an IP address. So you can retrieve that. I'd say your best option is to;
- Retrieve your web site files (it'll be sitting on an IP address somewhere)
- Register a different domain name (try the .org or .net ones)
- Ask the squatters how much they want
- Go with a second offer to see how low they'll go (threaten copyright, arbitration etc. They're used to that by now)
- Then decide if it's worth buying the old domain back, or if you just want to continue with the new domain. |

I hope you get it back! As a note of warning, I had a client who is a photographer and used her full, real name for her website and she let it lapse and called me freaking out when one of her clients asked why she decided to get into the internet porn business. Yep, someone claimed her domain and just pointed it to an existing porn site to drive traffic and to extort a high price for repurchasing it.
And as rainmotorsports said, your web developer / hosting provider is not always responsible for, or even has access to your domain name management.
If your domain name is your real name, it's best to register it for like 10 years or more at a time.
Best of luck to you. :(
