go to image capture in your application
under image capture(top right) choose preferences
and then it gives you option of where/what to open : ) |

It doesn't open the Prefs; with or without my camera connected. What did I do wrong?

So you are in the Image Capture application (not iPhoto), and select "Preferences" under the Image Capture menu, and nothing happens? If that's the case you have something corrupt. Try logging out and back in again, if that doesn't help see if you can reinstall just that application (from an Apple CD or maybe from their website). |

What Magnus said. Image Capture waas around for various media input before iPhoto existed, so that's where Apple has the preferences for importing stuff. |

Dang, I hate having to pull out those stupid CD's. All I did was move the imagecapture.app to a different part of my application folder. Could that have messed it up?

Well, what exactly happens or what do you see when you do as magnus suggested? |

Well, I open up Image Capture with no problem. It shows my Sony hooked up and everything is fine. I go to open the Prefs and nothing happens. It doesn't freeze up or anything, it just doesn't open the Prefs.
So, I dl'd Pacifist and loaded the two disks to it, so I could reinstall Image Capture by itself. It can't find Image Capture on the disks.
Whaddya suggest?

it sounds like the camera is plugged in when you are trying it, trying ejecting the camera and then do it. |

Tried that too. With the camera hooked up and without the camera hooked up; to no avail.

when you get to the preferences it wil say " GENERAL and SHARING"
Choose GENERAL and then under camera pick from the scroll down menu as to where you want it to open |

No, I haven't deleted the image capture program. I just moved it around in my Apps folder (I moved it into a folder full of other photo apps.

Quit Image capture, then launch it again. Is the 'Preferences...' option in the Image Capture menu dimmed?
Do you have any non-dismissed dialog windows open in the Finder? Have you repaired Permissions recently?

I quit IC, then launched it again. The Prefs option is not dimmed (when I click it, it flashes twice like it is going to open, but it doesn't). There are no non-dismissed dialog windows open in Finder.

Are you having the same problem I am; not being able to open the Preferences area of the Image Capture? If so, have you moved the Image Capture around from it's original position in your Apps folder?

Just move it back out to the Applications folder, open prefs, set what ya want then you can move it back.
Be sure it is quit before moving it either way.
