Have you ever showed your significant other, my wife in this case, a picture that you really liked and they just went... "umm... hmmm... well..." and then walked away? I called her over to look at the picture below and that's almost verbatim what she did. I really like it... I know it's not great, but I LIKE IT... I don't need to be coddled, but if I call you in from the other room don't you think you should give me more than an "umm... hmmm... well..."... Come on lady! Tell me it sucks, tell me you just don't really like it, tell me you think I'm hot and you want to jump my bones... just tell me something.!
Ahhh.... much betterâ€Â¦

Well, it's ummm...interesting? :P
It's mysterious, but not very gratifying. Almost leaves the viewer looking for too much to finish putting it together.
Technically it's fine and all that. I imagine your wife was reacting as a more typical viewer? I know mine does most of the time - although she's starting to learn enough know to do a little critiquing.
Sorry for leaving you hanging on this. For me it's a hard one to give feedback on.

Just needed to rant... my daughter is sleeping so I can't complain to anyone else.

The lighting is good, I am not sure if it is the pose or the crop - I can see the crop much more to the upper right and leaving a lot of the lower part out. Let the face and the lighting be the strength and not the presence. As it is I see a 'presence' and as glad stated, just something missing that puts it all together.
Something closer to this crop. Sorry - I just cropped your image and then upsized it 130% to give an idea of what I was thinking.

Thank you for taking the time to show me what you thought would look better. I have to agree with you, it does look better. I think cropping is my biggest weakness as a digital photographer. I'll take any help I can get.

I would actually count yourself lucky that she came at all. I can't get mine off the damn couch. It's usually, "can't you just tell me" or "tell me what it's about". |

I tell my girlfriend, "YOU BETTER GET OVER HERE NOW OR WE GONNA HAVE A THROW DOWN" If I'm lucky, I don't get pummeled.

I rarely even try to show hubby any because I get a sigh of disgust that I've asked him to take his eyes off his own monitor for 5 seconds.
(All he has to do is lean back a bit and turn his head to the left to see my screen from his computer) |

How'd I manage to miss this thread? ;)
You know what drives me mad, is when my wife picks out the only blurry, blown-out red-eye shot of the whole bunch and insists that's the one she wants on the christmas calendar.
She hates when I'm flicking through snapshots and I start pointing out 'technical problems'. |

So true. I get this a lot - "You took a hundred photos, why are there only 20 here for printing???" |
