So, do you do better in challenges where there is more participation or less participation? In other words...how do you do when there are:
o Less than 150 entrants?
o 150 to 250 submissions?
o More than 250 folks thinking they can knock you off?

My only ribbon so far was in a challenge with 612 entries, and I beat 92% of entries in the recent best of 2006 challenge which had 705.
So I would have to say the bigger the challenge the better.

Hard to say, I took the averages of my top 10 and lowest 10 % finishes and this is what I got.
Top Ten% finishes
average %-98.3%
average submissions-276
best finish 1/153
0 challenges: 1-150
4 challenges: 150-250
6 challenges: 250+
Bottom Ten% finishes
average %-35.9%
average submissions-283
worst finish 120/133
2 challenges: 1-150
3 challenges: 150-250
5 challenges: 250+
Seems to not make a difference, interesting to look at though.

My top three pics were
#1)249 entries
#2)375 entries
#3)410 entries
On average (among my 8 highest), I seem to enter challenges who have about 300 peeps participating. Seems strange, since I'm always plotting to enter the less popular challenge in hopes of sliding to the top, but it never seems to work that way...interesting question, got me thinking!

If there's fewer than 100 entries, there's a good chance I'll get in that top 100..

Interesting!
My highest scoring photo was first place out of 186 entries.
My other top scoring results are:
3/232
4/281
2/120
5/416
6/166
14/432
13/443
29/829
5/158
5/89
Seems I am all over the place.

Four out of my top five scores were in challenges with at least 280 entries.
6.5311 - 280
6.3360 - 315
6.2270 - 501
6.2077 - 344
6.2049 - 140
So, for the current "Shallow DOF III" challenge with 413 submissions, I may do well! <fingers crossed>
