I've been messing around with bouncing a flash off a sheet of white foamcore (I think that's what it's called). I've never really used a flash in any way other than with a lightshpere and just wanted to try something different. I'd appreciate some opinions/ideas/advice on what might be done to improve the lighting. I just used my 430ex set to E-TTL, 1/250, f8.

I appologize for the model used. he may not be purddy, but, he worked cheap. :)

Thanks!

Left you a comment. The one on the right is my favorite. :)

The light is a bit bright/harsh on the first pic, but looks great on the second one. Very natural. I would avoid cropping the chin, however, as it is a bit of a portrait no-no.

You're on the right track there with reflecting light. Take a look at this photo of my Dad I shot the other night, and see if you can guess what I used for lighting. The answer is in the image details. Not the greatest shot, but shows the possibilities.

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.

Telehubbie; I've been thinking about picking up a stand and umbrella for the flash. I'm glad you posted the shot of your Father. I have a large family and am wanting to have the ability to take some "better than walmart" photographs of them. After seeing your shot I think I may do that. Thanks.

Note to self; No cropping of the chin. :)
