If it makes you feel better, Shannon, I was DQ'ed this week for using a filter in Basic Editing ("Exit" challenge). After entering 26 challenges, I knew better (I thought). I do know now!
It's a good thing that Langdon doesn't assign a "dunce cap-wearing avatar" to our names for a week. I can see it now:

He's actually done that to me before. |

I'm happy to see you are showing signs of being almost human Shannon.
:)
I was quite embarrassed when my shot was DQ'd as well.
(I'm just glad I wasn't a member of the site counsel).

So, Shannon, I'm just curious... which SC member actually pressed the DQ button?

So since this is an SC the suspension is 6 months right? :P |

I just have to say that this is probably the most refreshing "DQ" threads I've seen in a long time. Nobody angry, no arguments, no "you don't get it" comments, just everybody having fun (at Shannon's expense). Hat's off to Shannon, you're quite a trooper. There's a great saying that goes: "He who laughs at himself, is always amused." |

Years of ridicule with no possibility of parole. |

Yeah, it was bizarre. I had to explain to myself why it was DQ'd. We usually include a message to review the rules, too. I originally put that down as, "Note to self...," but then erased it as silly and just left the DQ reason.

Must've been the pending release of Vista that threw you off, Shannon. ;)

It could have been worse. At least it was 44 entries since your self-DQ and not 24.

You know RAW isn't valid in minimal, right? You have to shoot JPG. |

That's what scares me. If she's overwritten her original jpeg, then the RAW ain't gonna save her. Say it ain't so, Deb....

People, read the whole thread. Deb already said she shoots RAW+JPEG and entered the latter. :)
On another point, how come the DQs some folks (e.g., generalE) don't show up in their profiles? I've noticed that in some other profiles, too.
Do they stop being displayed after 25 challenges go by?
And do self-dqs show up? |

I quote Deb "P.S. Deb's method for minimal editing rules:
1) Copy file (actually, I may have forgotten this part but I have the original RAW file!)"
If she didn't copy the JPG before working on it, the RAW ain't gonna save her....

DQs weren't always displayed, they used to just disappear from sight. When they made the decision to display them, it wasn't retroactive so not all DQs are visible. And no, self-DQs generally do not show up. |

Just want to say that I really feel for Shannon on this. I had to go look at the rules myself to confirm that there was in fact a "one-step limit" on resizing in the published version. I felt bad having to "push the button" and start the review process, as I do anytime I have to do so when I know it's an honest mistake.
Sharpening to just the right degree is tough in any rule set, but in Minimal it's a real bugger.
Hopefully he'll come out from under the desk before his dinner gets cold ;-)
And seriously, my hat's off to Shannon for his grace in accepting his "50 lashes with a wet noodle." |

Not to mention the lashes he's taking in another thread and they are not using wet noodles. :P |
