This should brighten someone's day. Someone else's.
I just found myself on the receiving end of a DQ. Not a self-DQ or errant camera date, but the full bore, paper-bag-over-the-head WWYT kind of DQ. Even worse, it was in Minimal Editing- the easiest rule set we have. How do you mess THAT up? When Kirbic brought it to my attention last night, I thought for sure he was joking. I was extra careful with my JPEG camera settings, and all I did was resize and plain old Sharpen in Photoshop, so that should be fine, right? Wrong!
I had experimented with every possible combination of resize and Sharpen to find the best results. Sharpen then resize was too soft. Resize then Sharpen was a little too harsh. Sharpen twice then resize didn't help, so I tried a partial resize, Sharpen, then resize the rest of the way. That worked, but BIIIIG mistake. You can only resize once in Minimal. Oops! I kinda missed that little detail in the rules (despite having a small role in writing them). How utterly embarrassing!
My wife laughed at me. My kids laughed at me. The neighbor's dog peed on my foot. We always say that the Site Council hates to hand out DQ's, but I swear I saw party hats in back. Sorry guys- I'm a doofus. If you need me, I'll be under my desk. :-/ |

Wow..... yeah... uh.... I would have only resize once. Typically I do the majority fo my editing before the resize maybe one or two things after. But yeah that sucks dude.
..... This is kind of liek that time an Maryland MTA Officer pulled over a Maryland State Trooper..... I just have to do this HAHAHAHA.....

Well, I can empathize ... I had this photo DQ'd because, when I cropped it, I accidentally dragged the crop tool a couple of pixels outside of the image area, adding that tiny white line at the top -- this was against the rules in effect at the time.

It wasn't "sharpen" which was the problem, it was "resize." |

It doesn't say anywhere you can only sharpen once. It's resize you can only do once.

It's resizing you can only do once. I'm pretty sure you can sharpen more than once, though I wouldn't take my word for it. ;-)

Shannon, I was gonna check your profile to see how many challenges you'd entered before this first DQ, but my wrist started hurting from all the scrolling, and I still hadn't gotten past your red ribbons. I gave up and am now seeking treatment for my carpel-tunnel.

I believe it was a neighbor moreso than a friend. However, I fail to see the connection to Shannon's 'Abject humiliation'. ;) |
