From the rumor mill. It sounds decadent.

who says that more pixels are marketing gimmicks?
consumers WANTS it.
would you want more pixels on your 30D, 5D? of course you do.
you might throw in some extra requirements like less noise, etc
but the end, we all want more pixels. |

But would a magazine photog really want that many MPs? I'm not sure the quality difference between a 6MP sensor and a 22MP sensor could be obviously resolved in a typical magazine format.

Certainly wouldn't make much sense here. Would it? Of course some would argue a 5D wouldn't make much sense here at DPC. I don't have an insight into that. Hoz's bout you Doc? ;)

Maybe I imagined it but didn't they show Leibovitz switching between 35mm and medium format cameras with digital backs during her magazine photo shoots shown on the PBS documentary recently?

Don't have tv anymore so didn't see that. Did find this video on Utube.
Hollywood 2006 shoot with Leiboitz
Saw some Polaroids laying about so she may have been using film in the huge medium format camera she was using. You might be able to ID the camera, the video was too poor in quality for me to recognize it.
