Not taking it TOO personal, but I have seen some comments around talking about the bad grammar and spelling of some members... -some are only jokes, but some actually take the bad grammar as sign of stupidity or something, like if someone with bad spelling is less of a photographer and his/her opinion is less important... Not all of us are native english speakers, probably most of the people with "bad spelling" seamos personas que vivimos en paises con otro idioma, idioma que hablamos y escribimos con bastante fluidez pero si fueramos por el foro escribiendo asi le complicariamos la vida bastante a aquellos que no nos entienden... If you could only take two seconds before freak out about someones bad grammar, you could think that quizas esa persona este haciendo un esfuerzo para darse a entender, and I can understand that this IS an english site, and if we suscribe is owr problem to understand you, pero un poquito de paciencia de su parte no les cuesta ningun trabajo....

End of rant... I can be happy again

Good point Gaby and excellent reminder. Folks here are from all over the world. Which helps make DPC so special.
I personally don't feel as generous when it comes to an image title. There I think spelling is vital to the final product. I don't mind if the artist uses his or her native language in the title.

Glad your happy again.

Gaby,

Bad spelling and poor punctuation can mean many things. They may mean that the writer is spelling in a second language, or that the person is a bit thick, or pressed for time, or they may mean something else.

On the internet, as with other forms of written communication, there is little information by which one may make a judgment about a correspondent. Accordingly, when people do make judgments about others, poor spelling and grammar will be given greater regard than they might in the "real" world.

Unfortunately, if you write as well as you do, then people may not realise (as they might from, say, an accent) that you are not a native speaker and jump to the wrong conclusion. You should probably take that as a compliment!

:D Actually I was not talking about a comment someone made to me... Today I readed a comment about that, this actually was a joke and I took it as that, but it made me remember a comment I readed a few weeks ago where someone was trying to make a point and somebody else answer to him something like "why dont you learn how to write and then give your opinion" that time it made me sooo mad that I had to hold myself from answering to that if I dont wanted to get banned from the site..., but this time I just wanted to take it out of my system...

A 'bit thick'? - Look at how bad William Shakespeare's spelling was. And he wasn't thick.

Fixed spelling is a relatively modern invention (and still subject to some change). Spelling became gradually formalised following the inventions of the printing press and the dictionary.

Re: Shakespeare, we have no record of Shakespeare's manuscripts from which to assess his spelling. His plays were preserved for modern readers in the first folio, a printed book all written and set after Shakespeare's death by his contemporaries.

If you are interested in the English language, "The Adventure of English" by Melvynn Bragg is a good book explaining its history. If you are interested in the proper use of English, then Fowler's "Modern English Usage" is the bible!

I love leaving out the smileys to see if people take me seriously... ;-)

Not a bad idea. After 2 weeks of 'Celebrity' Big Brother I need a refresher as to how to speak proper English. (Although I noticed the whole Shilpa thing didn't get a mention in the forums. Just as well really, it was such an embarrassment.)

Or is that "how to speak English proper", in true BB fashion?
