I recently purchased a Sandisk Extreme III 4GB CF card for about $100 bucks. The seller had 100% positive feedback rating so I thought I was safe. Well, when I got it I became suspicious because the packaging was kinda beat up and it wasn't sealed. So I did some research and came up with this:
//reviews.ebay.com.au/FAKE-SanDisk-Extreme-Compact-Flash-Cards-Exposed_W0QQugidZ10000000001449653

Now, I know there have been discussions on this before but the thing that I hadn't heard before and that really surprised me was that eBay claims that 95% of CF cards listed on eBay are fake. Mine was one of the 95% and I am in the process of getting my refund, but I have learned a valuable lesson:

Never buy memory cards on eBay.

I have purchased several memory cards (CF) on ebay, and have never had a problem with any of them being fakes. None of them were Extremes though....

yep, that's about all there is to it. i've heard from a number of friends about getting burned this way. it's soooo tempting, but soooooooo risky.

How closely did you check? The fakes are pretty darn good looking, but the manufacturing details (square as opposed to rounded corners, etc.) are what give it away.

I just bought a Sandisk Ultra II 2gb SD card from eBay, checked it out on the PC and it exactly as stated.

Like everything on eBay, you have to be so careful when buying, always check out feedback and location of seller. Even then there is always the chance you are going to get stung.

Good to hear. But just be careful to remember not to buy anything else yet. :)
