What do YOU think the world will be like in 50 years?
2057 Link
A 3-part series airs tonight on Discovery called 2057. Its to be a scientific view of what our lives MIGHT be like in 50 years. Kind of reminds me of those 1950s programs where they thought 2000 would be like The Jetsons! lol Anyway looks interesting, and begins in 10 minutes on the east coast, US. (all 3 parts air tonight, 8pm, 9pm & 10pm)

I'm really looking forward to:
1. DSLRs with no sensor dust
2. Paying $138.00 per gallon for gas.
3. The billboards in Timesquare are all in Arabic.
:) |

50 years isn't that far ahead, so i doubt there will be much difference as compared to what we have today.
Sorry guys, no flying cars yet. |

Can tell you are not watching the show. Think about 5 years ago and how far we have come. This is a great show... and yes flying cars in 50 years.

I'm really impressed by their predictions for technology increases based on fledgling technology that is being researched today. Definitely an interesting series, worth the 3 hours if anyone has an evening to kill. MUCH of the program is based on "what science is trying to do today" and then guessing about how that might advance in 50 years time.

while the flying cars would be invented, i doubt it will hit the streets big time - yet (in 50 years). There are many inventions even on this decade, but the mainstream technology we are using today had been invented long long ago. |

That is what impressed me as well. They say something that is totally off the wall, then they show how today's research could make it possible. I think it was well worth my 3 hours.

Well I suppose you can make the argument that phone cameras which have allowed more people the ability to snap a photo any time any where was a significant change to our way of life but if you're just talking film to digital I would say no.

I agree - improvements here and there, probably, like slimmer phones, smaller computers, and stuff like that. But Nothing that has a major impact on how people lived - not since sliced bread, LOL |

ok I'll be serious for a moment.
4 years ago I had an aortic valve replaced in my heart. Prior to the operation I had to have an angiogram, risky & expensive. Now after a checkup last week at the cardiologist there was a little blip on the ECG he didn't like.
Until recently he would have recommended another angiogram, but now he has access to a new machine that goes 'bing' which takes 3 minutes to do a 3d scan of my heart - no operation necessary, unless they find something, of course:) |

This should be made a challenge! Take a picture that depicts what you think the world will look like in 2057. |
