Has anyone ever used this product/plug-in for Photoshop? If it works like it says it does, it would be a great tool - does it actually work? It's a bit pricey to take a gamble on...

I haven't used it but they do offer a trial version that's fully functional (It adds a watermark to the image) It does look useful though. Thanks for posting it.

I've been experimenting with doing this manually and quite frankly, it's a major time consumer/PITA... I think this might be a useful tool to have a look at.

On closer inspection, there doesn't seem to be a lot of added functionality over creating alpha channels with the select color range... Maybe just more of a user friendly interface... I doubt I'd pay for it... Most of the benefit seems to come from getting a well defined background...
