Oh I think with that magazine it may be a 1960's conversion Enfield to chamber and fire the 7.62 NATO which is .308 Winchester.

I agree. British Enfield .303 caliber rifle, made in USA by Winchester. Remington also made some.

That is what it is looking like but it's still a British designed rifle. My guess is it is worth about 500. since they made 500,000 of them. I will keep looking.

I'd say you are right Cindi. The RFI 968 on the rifle would verify that it's an Indian made rifle per the Wikpedia acticle you linked to.

The RFI refers to the Ishapore Rifle Factory in India.

Definitely not a .303 Enfield. I have a .303 Enfield and the bolt and receiver are considerably different.
OOPS! Just dug the old beast out and it is a dead ringer!

$300 from what I'm seeing.

Check out GunBroker.com. It's eBay for guns.

Yet, another thread proving that dpc members really and truly do know everything about everything.

It would be interesting to know what's it's worth. I have an Enfield, Eddystone Model of 1917. I saw this thread and had to see what exactly it was. I included a pic.

303 Enfield, unmodified is probably worth more in UK and Europe than US
01/23/2007 05:22:11 PM · #96
Mine is modified with shortened barrel, sport stock, and Weaver telescopic sights, purchased from a surplus dealer in 1961. With mods is still worth only about $350. Two versions of this vintage were produced that had different number of riflings in the barrell, one had three lands and the other had five.

Well a quick search turns up a price of $600-$900 depending on date of manufacture and condition. Yours looks good and you have the sling and bayonet I would guess around $700. This is the best book out there for determining prices Blue Book

Its great, isn't it? Last night when I started researching this, I'd found and was about to join a gun collector's forum to ask for help and I thought I'd post here first on the off chance that someone would be a gun person..... guess I should have known with all these men around here! ;)

Southside Gun has a pretty good reputation for accurate appraisals on handguns. The probably can handle this as well.

FWIW - I'm not a collector, but learned this from a police officer who is.
