This is only ever my second pic above 6 and the shoutin' ain't over yet. If what you said is true, and I don't suck for another challenge, it's only because you guys are drawing it out of me and teaching me.

I ain't takin' blame for Non-Suck scores!

My Best of still sucks, though......

Sometimes we even IM each other and we're seated less than two feet apart. Ah, marriage :-)

oh she already shakes her head every time i jump on and starts talking about obsession...

i'm thinking about a submission for Nude...

imma little worried about this one though but it could come out good.

Since there are openings on several teams, maybe jaysonmc and black0star already have a team in mind. If not, let me give you a hint: pick Team Novice! You're guaranteed a brown at least once every few weeks. We PERSONIFY sucking on this great team Plus, Juli, Bob, Raish and I (and also Cuspie and Lilritter if and when they're around) would luuuuuurve to device an initiation rite. Although I admit I kind of want some input from sickdog on that one.

I'm up for Team Novice, if you'll have me.

Hmmmmm... This is going to take some heavy thinking.

I've been avoiding it because I didn't want to see how bad my Wildlife entry really is......I'm pleasantly surprised at how many even I think my pic is better than.

That said, I've given out 1-10, 1-9, 1-8, and 2-7s out of 15 voted......sigh.....

The random scrolling up onto my screen seems to be bringing up really good ones, dammit!

Edit: Back twenty minutes later....my entry SUCKS!!!!

I knew I didn't want to look at this one to vote.

I'm up to two 10s and the one really should be about a 14 and the other a 12.......sigh.....

hi all,
Looks like my wildlife shot is creeping into my top 3 scores on my profile and with a little luck could make top 2. bit chuffed about that as its a first entry in a long time. :-)

Ohh by the way, Good Morning

To the new applicants - make sure you read the first post of this thread to see what Team Suck is all about. And be prepared to write an essay or knit something. (Helps if you have time to read the whole thread, but I realize it's long.)

Create a cartoon character representing the sucking novice and compose a strip of a least four frames in which the character 'discusses' an entry or entries from a recent challenge. Or confess to enjoying cricket.

black0star is on the wait list for a team.

black0star, I quite like your style and approach to the challenges - refreshing ideas! If no one else from the Hoovers objects (and we're pretty laid back - after all, we're named after an object that sits in a closet or back room most of the time), you're welcome to join us. As for initiation? Hmmm.... Can you Haiku? A Hoover or suck based Haiku would be lovely.

Go for it! I'd love to hear what you think I'm really good at. :)

You asked for it:

You just seem to have an absolute mastery of the camera itself. You know what it can and can't do and how to get the most out of it. You seem to be able to take what people say couldn't be done with a camera and make it happen. I definitely have a lot to learn to be where you are.

Tell me what I'm good at too! Because I don't seem to have a clue...

bmartuch you are in a lot of trouble now :-) I think you're going to have to tell all of Team Suck when each individual member is good at!
01/23/2007 07:49:44 AM · #1720
I'll save Bob the trouble on me.

I'm good at subtle, quiet, what some (not all) may see as dull. I cannot for the life of me create a shot that's DPC-friendly with "pop" and immediate thumbnail appeal. My stuff does not fare well under 2-second scrutiny, but can, at times, grow on you after awhile.

Am I close?

I think you're patially right with the subtle and quiet, but I think that your shots do have thumb nail appeal. Your shots are the kind that I can just sit and stare at and kind of get lost in them. I really like your photography. I think that sometimes you're in the same boat that I'm in and just don't have the time to get the shot that you would really like. As far as DPC friendly, many of us don't have that.

Catherine, you are probably one of the most consistant photographers in the group. Look at all the high 5's and 6's you've received lately. Sorry to say you're not ready to knock larus or librodo off their lofty perch yet but you seem to consistantly get better in small increments. You're also the queen of wildlife!

Edit: You're also good at analyzing photos.

Not even....

Remember what you said about Svetlana? More art than stock.

And as far as not faring well under 2-second scrutiny, judging from the fact that not one of the entries on your profile page is under 6.5 (A Team Suck No-No BTW!), they sure passed them well enough to score well. You know as well as I do that they MUST pass the 2-second scrutiny to score well.

The funny thing is, I do understand your "Pop" comment, but only because your pics don't need that hook.....it's just good stuff all the way around. It shows depth and yet humor, thought and yet silliness.....it's grownup, real world stuff that a passing glance may not necessarily take in but upon close examination is in fact, truly noteworthy work.

It's weird, I feel like I just contradicted myself, but my point is there is much to love about your work, Deb, and whether it's a wry look at the antics of the kitties, or the somber "P-i-P (a nod to jjbeguin's lovely duotones)", a show of respect and admiration, noteworthy in its own right, you a class act, girl!

Damn...and I was getting all ready to pack up and move to Iceland...LoL!
I've got to add something to Melethia's self-analysis. Deb, take a look at your average score received. It is over 5.6. I think your photos resonate a lot better with the public at large (if you can call DPC that - more of a photographer's microcosm, but that's just semantics)than you realize.
