But but but... I don't want a 40, I want a 7D! When are they gonna "accidentally" announce that one?

If you're thinking of the Elan 7, that was known as the EOS 30/33, so in effect you've already got one :o)

| Is this new news? My grandmother used to talk about her 40D's. She said they made it hard to find the right bra. |

Those Canon marketing guys are GOOD. They put blank pages about the 40D up and someone finds an "accidental" page and it gets linked all over the internet and everyone gets all excited. They are GOOD. :-)

I wonder if Canon will experience any kind of backlash if they keep issuing "upgrades" as whole new cameras
The XTi can clearly be called new model over the XT.
The 30D was just an upgrade from the 20D. Now it sounds like the 40D might basically be an upgrade of the 30D- adding dust reduction and a bump in MP's- is that enough to be considered a "NEW MODEL"?

I don't think it's supposed to be a new model. It's an upgrade to their mid-level line. Canon does a good job of maintaining separate lines with distinct qualities. The XTi started to blur the line between the entry and mid levels so they needed to bump up their mid level. This may blur line between mid and upper level and cause a new 5D model. That might finally bump up their professional line with the 1D. |

Not the first time Canon does this by "accident".
But no specs, no pics, only guesswork. Not very interesting.

Of course, this could have just been a typo for a 400D... :o)

Probably, gorilla advertising, where they have "leaks" to create interest in the upcoming product. Happens almost every Feb/Aug.

| "...and some cannibalization by their own EOS 400D / Rebel XTi." What is that supposed to mean?!? |

The new sensor (more Mp), larger LCD screen, and dust reduction capability added to the 350 when they created the 400 effectively makes the 400 a viable alternative to the 30D, a more expensive camera. The 400D is "cannibalizing" sales from the 30D. Companies, as a rule, don't like their entry-level products to be as good as, or better than, their higher-level products.
