I would love to see the type of lighting photographers own and use for each photo. I, for one, don't own lights but would love to know what to purchase when I have the moola. I think natural light, portable lights and reflectors should also be on the list. I wonder if this is practical or would the list be too long in the photographer̢۪s info box?

It should function similarly to how the lens listing works. The category should be added to the photographers profile and whenever uploading a photo you would be able to select the light source(s), i.e. Flash 580 EX or Impact 60" Gold Round Reflector or Canon MR-14EX Macro Ring Light, you get the idea. You could even go so far as to specify the weather conditions if outdoors (sunny, partly cloudy, overcast). O.k. maybe that last part went a little too far :)

Anyone else ever wonder what people are using?

maybe we could dtep it down a notch... and just have "natural, flash, strobe, hot lights" that way you know, but its up to you to still figure it out.

I kind of like this idea, but would prefer to see it implemented like jaxed suggests. I like putting the lighting setup details in the comments, and I'm sure some people want to see that, but it's kind of a drag repeating the same things over and over. Plus, maybe some don't really care about it, and the comments become cluttered.

Add your requests here.
Maybe we can convince D&L that this is worth the programming.

The best way to describe your lighting is to take a wide-angle shot of the set-up; post that image in the comment or additional info sections of the original image.

Yeah, that does work... although it would be awesome to have some sort of JAVA app to diagram our lighting setups...
but it probably wouldn't be used much. Hell, many of us don't even fill in the Shutter speed or aperture half the time.

Here's a photoshop file that can be used to create very nice lighting diagrams. You just turn different layers on and off and move them around to get the diagram you want.

I got the link from Gordon

True, maybe this would work best if left simple and not require diagrams. I have been asked what kind of lighting I use, the answer is always natural light, sometimes with a reflector. Others might use natural and portable lighting, flash and so on. I thought what I used was obvious but apparently not. I think it would be helpful for people that see something they like to better understand the steps they need to take or not take to "duplicate" it. I feel it falls in line with the reason we have cameras and lenses listed. Figuring out the list would be some undertaking though.
