As some of you may have seen/ignored a thread I posted yesterday with some food shots, I though I'd do a follow up, with a shot I took this morning. I had more time to set it up, as opposed to the rushed stuff I got the other day.
I used Michael Ray's Cheescake shot as a model because I think his lighting technique is exquisite. I also like the way he zig zags his background props. I wish I had more props to play with and there was no mint at the market today ...woulda look awesome with some fresh mint.
Check it out.

I like that, looks better than a lot of the shots you posted yesterday. I think it could still use a touch more (very minimal) DOF and some sharpening though ;)

Nice shot and lighting, shame the cheesecake look like stodgy scrambled eggs.

Very nice. I've always been fascinated by food photography, but have never tried it myself.
I bet it would make for a fun challenge. Lets do it in a few months. When I have more time. After I've helped my in-laws move to their new condo, gotten my daughter enrolled in college and fixed everybody's computers for them. Lets say, maybe June or so....

Llama, llama!
Looks scrumptious! Lighting is great. I think you should have left in more of the bottom of the plate though.

i think the on the fly shots were better than this considering you had the time to set this one up...
i don't like how the tip of the slice of cheese cake is clipped off or the rasberry sauce for that matter. i also think the eye is drawn away from the subject and into the background.
here is an article that might be useful:

I think the lighting is much better here than in the shots from yesterdays thread. The things that I don't like about the photo are more the fault of whoever did the cooking. I'd love to see more of these food shots as you get around to them! |

hey Pawdrix, this shot is so much better than the ones you posted just yesterday! And I agree with someone's post that there needs to be more foreground and less of the raspberries in the background. Really great lighting..nice job mate! |

What's stopping you from photographing food? Got to start somewhere right?
Anyway WHY does his web site resize my browser... that leaves a bit of a bad taste in MY mouth.

I fixed a few things (twice, since the OP and original image/edit). Luckily, only 3 viewers saw the first pic.
For starters, I used a sharper image, changed the crop to give a bit more space at the bottom, sharpened it up a dash more and added some brightening, saturation and contrast.
Oh...one last thing for the record: The Cheesecake was soft and fluffy. Difficult for the people at the shop to cut not to mention the plastic container it came in was a little to small to fit it. So, those of you that have issues with the shape or look...go past that.
It tasted GREAT!!!
