When I bought my camera, I was comparing between the Cannon 350D and the Nikon D50. The Nikon was $500 less. I went with what I could afford. |

I've entered Wildlife and Minimalism II. Hoping maybe to get out of the 4's. But if not I'm learning with each and every challenge I enter. It takes me a long time to learn.
Just put something in for Exit. You guys have inspired me to just go for it.

Amazingly, I am in for both Minimal and Fill the Frame. This should be fun, I expect one or two comments :D

Well, the good news is that there is just about zero processing that you're allowed to do to it anyway! :)

I think I got a bit like this over the last few weeks. I think the reason was that I had started to take shots purely for the sake of entering challenges, and nothing for me. It has helped me to get away from that idea and back to taking shots for me - if they happen to fit a challenge then great, otherwise no worries!
Anyway I hope that you can find something that gets your mojo back because I like your photos. |

Thoughts on how a Fill the Frame with minimal editing might go over?? I may have an entry for Minimalism, but it's definitely a Deb shot and will score accordingly. I have a couple of possibilities for Fill the Frame depending on which editing avenue I want to take. Definitely not in wildlife - all I had was a gimp pigeon and I deleted him, poor guy. And I have far too many to choose from for either Entrance or Exit. |

Try it and see. Mine has practically no editing. Obviously it can't stand up to the creations that some people... create but I think it's quite good. |

I've noticed so far that voters are accepting of some radical editing but not demanding it.
And I just re-upped for another year. Ready or not...

I fulfilled a subliminal need to process in Wildlife and Entrance to make up for no processing in Minimalism.

It happens.....for some reason I just can't put my finger on, I feel sort of used up and spent.
Not that there's been any excitement in my recent past or anything.
I joined a local camera club here in the area, paid my $20 for a year's membership, had the first seminar on Monday night, and spent 7½ hours yesterday sharing three studio setups with about a dozen photographers in the club while we all shared about a dozen models learning how to *be* photographed.....I figure I got my $20 back about an hour after I was there!
But after all day, I was really whipped.....I was surprised at how much all that concentration and trying to get picture after picture right with different sets, models, lights and the accompanying constant adjustments could be.
It was great! I got the "Photo of the Day" there.
I'd love feedback....I had a ball with this pic!
Anyhow, I sure can relate to feeling a little burnt out and having a lack of energy towards doing the work for challenges right now.
My mind is drawing a blank for inspirations and I'm just going to not try too hard and submit something awful.
I may just take a pass for a few days.

hmmmm...strange. i got a comment from Skiprow for my Best Of shot...
a positive one too despite the 4.7 i'm averaging for it.
my Battle shot is holding a 5.3 so maybe i'm coming out of my slump this week and can start actually contributing scores again. |
Looks like Skiprow is trying for a Yappie. He commented on my BO 2006. A little disappointing, but he says himself, in his profile and the post he wrote on "Frustrated with your scores?", that you should please yourself. I did. I love my BO shot! |

thanks for the advice deb. i'll throw that camera at him monday and see what happens. i like my sony but you can only get accessories for it through sony and thats kind of a pain...
can't beat sony for durability though. i was sucked into a moshpit at a show with it and had to hit a guy on the head with it. it didn't hurt the camera at all and then i got a shot of the guy after the pit thats on my website. i'll post it shortly. |
At one of the FOTOFusion sessions I attended, that was given by a Canon rep, he mentioned the the Rebel XTi as a great camera for travel. I think it is lighter weight than some. BUT there aren't as many lenses for that yet, and I don't think they are interchangeable with the EOS cameras. He said there is a good low-light lens for the XTi.
He also mentioned the EOS 5D as being good for travel (travel was the topic of the session). And one thing about that model is that it has a 35mm sensor, so there is no conversion factor. (Don't ask me to explain that, I tuned it out.)
I have no experience with Canon (or any DSLR), so I'm just passing along something I heard from Canon (definitely biased). |

The shot I'm planning to enter in Fill the Frame has very little editing. It probably would qualify under Basic Rules. |

All of the Canon EF lenses work with the Canon Xti. I use the lenses interchangeably with my Canon film camera. |

OH!, shows how much I don't know about DSLR. At any rate, in this session, I definitely got the impression that different lenses would be needed for the Rebel XTi and the EOS 5D.
For travel, and this was for serious photographic trips, he said two bodies should be carried, and he recommended both the XTi and the 5D as being a good pair. Then he talked about the 2 or 3 lenses to take for each body.

wow... thats what i get trying to post before the coffee kicks in.
i love my BO shot too and i can't wait till the challenge is over to tell you al why.
thanks for the advice on cameras. especially about lenses. i didn't think of that when i purchased my sony and thats one area where it's a real pain. you cant get sony products at most camera shops.
there's a camera shop around the corner from my job. imma run in there tomorrow and play with them all.

Sad when a Canon rep doesn't know Canon products.
From the Canon Web Site:
"The EOS 5D is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF lineup (except EF-S lenses), ranging from 14mm Ultra-Wide to 600mm Super Telephoto lenses."
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi - "Fully compatible with over 60 EF and EF-S Lenses and a wide range of EOS System accessories."
Both use EF lenses.
Perhaps the sales rep meant EF-S lenses. |

Yeah. The EF-S lenses are for the EOS range except for the 5D and the 1DSmkII that use full-frame sensors.
All the EOS cameras can use EF lenses.

That would really surprise me, since the numerical name is Canon EOS 400D. The Canon rep said that?

well it's the last day and i haven't been able to get anything for wildlife...
but being as i live in oakland and work in san francisco i guess this isn't that surprising.
i have the day off though so we'll see.

You can use any EF mount lens on the 400D / Rebel XTi and any EF-S lens too. You can even adapt older Canon lense and put them on, albeit without much functionality. |

I haven't shot anything worthwhile in a week or so, but I wanted to update all of you who wished my daughter well. She's almost fully healed after her bike accident. Kids recover so fast!
Thanks for your good thoughts. :)

Great news. Your daughter looks so like my number 2 daughter looked when she was young. |
