Select the ruler, click at one point of the horizon/edge that you want to straighten, hold the mouse down and extend to an endpoint on the horizon/edge. Let go of the mouse. Select image rotate canvas, arbitrary. It will show the degree of rotation and direction (CW, CCW).

That works great. That was exactly what I was looking for.

My MP entry is a success. I got a comment from Skiprow AND a comment from Posthumous. A girl can't ask for much more than that!

hmmmm...strange. i got a comment from Skiprow for my Best Of shot...

a positive one too despite the 4.7 i'm averaging for it.

my Battle shot is holding a 5.3 so maybe i'm coming out of my slump this week and can start actually contributing scores again.

I'm in the same boat for "Entrance". I don't think most people won't catch the connection between the photo and the challenge subject.

Both are good, both are lots of fun. Probably more Canon owners than Nikon owners but no idea why that is. The Rebel XTi (400D) would be a kickass new toy if you were in the market to get one. See what he can get it for then compare that to the prices online to see if it is indeed a good deal.

thanks for the advice deb. i'll throw that camera at him monday and see what happens. i like my sony but you can only get accessories for it through sony and thats kind of a pain...

can't beat sony for durability though. i was sucked into a moshpit at a show with it and had to hit a guy on the head with it. it didn't hurt the camera at all and then i got a shot of the guy after the pit thats on my website. i'll post it shortly.

although this shot is sort of out of focus it remains one of my favorites. this is from a show a few years back where i was sucked into the moshpit. i had to hit this guy with my camera when he came flying at me. after the pit i approached him and, like most punks at shows i go to, he was completely cool about it.

so i took a picture of him. i was still shaken up and probably more than a little drunk when i took it.

LOL! That's good sturdy equipment for you!

As for the Nikon/Canon wars - really they both make quality products and lens availability for both is about the same. I think it kinda depends on what you pick up first, or if you had equipment already. Find a local camera place that may have both and see if you like the way one "feels" over the other, or if you like the knobs and dials better on one over the other. I think the only reason I went with Canon is I had a Powershot A40 (now in the very capable hands of the youngest of the Too clan - aidanthetoo) and I really liked the color it produced.

coming into the end of this i have a better score than i have had in a few weeks.

it's nothing record breaking but it's better than i've gotten recently. i'm proud none the less.

it will be my third best on my profile.

Entered something in Free Study a bit ago - still need to process it a tiny bit more but if I don't it's still a decent shot and will work. Tried to take some photos for Fill the Frame but when processing I realized that they probably wouldn't work. Today I took a few shots for Minimalism. Haven't had the heart to process them. I guess I'm getting burnt out or something. I don't right now think that I'm going to take an official break but it is a dim possibility and if it happens I will definitely let the team know.

Feeling for you, Kelly. Don't want the sense of obligation to take over. I've actually toyed with the idea of selling some equipment - including the camera body itself - in order to finance an upgrade. That would certainly bring about a forced absence.

These teams are big enough to allow for subdued activity levels, though. Everything's better with you than without you.

*nod* Yeah. Thank you.
(To be clear, it isn't Team Suck that's contributing at all to burnout.)
Good luck with upgrade decisions.

Hey Kelly, photography should be for fun first. You have been busy in your first year and it looks like you have gone into challenge mode rather photographic. You don't need to enter every challnge, take a step back and take your camera out and shoot for fun.

Use your interest, don't let it use you. I think we have all gone through this at some stage and picking up the camera to go and shoot another challenge loses its appeal. Sit back for a while and watch everyone else dashing about. It feels good :)

They're both excellent cameras.

The fierce competition between the two at the entry level DSLR has kept both scrambling to outdo each other.

Canon leads, then Nikon leads, then Canon leads, the Nikon......gettin' the picture? (Pun intended!!!)

Right now the D80 might be a little better than the EOS 400D, I think the 400D is a couple of dollars cheaper.

The right one of the two for you?

That's easy.....go and get your hands on both of them at the store and see which one sets you off.

I was doing the comparo myself......exhaustive homework on the 'Net and was really tossed up.

I had narrowed it down to the D70s or the EOS 350D, and was leaning toward the Canon 'cause I like Canon equipment, BUT.....

When I got to the store and physically compared the two, the Nikon won out in a heartbeat.

Why?

Because it just felt better in my hands and was easier for me to use.

Strictly personal preference.

IMNSHO you cannot go wrong with either Nikon or Canon at any level in DSLR.

,If you are interested in low light photographs and have the cash, you may want to check out the Canon 30D.

If you spend $, buy good fast lenses. These are more critical than the camera body.

I bought the Nikon D70s and could not get the focus to work. I sent this in to Nikon and bought the Canon Xti. I have been far happier with the Canon. The D70s was repaired and sent back but I haven't even touched it.

sickdog I'm a Canon 20-D user and very happy. I checked out both the Canon and comperable Nikon at the time (just over a year ago) and liked the controls better on the Canon. Before you buy from the guy at the store, check out equipment on this site, especially for lenses. I've found things to be about $100 cheaper on average than the cheapest from Ebay. (Just bought a fast Sigma macro lens which ROCKS.)
