There are many elements at a photographer's disposal: lighting, composition, arrangement, depth of field, etc., but lately I've been giving a lot of thought to point of view. It is standard, perhaps, to simply stand and take a picture from that height, or near that height, possibly because this is how we first view so many objects that catch our attention. In my attempts to vary my point of view to get more "umph" out of my photography, I've been looking at Jodiecoston's fine work.
Here is her profile:

Jodie seems to naturally find the appropriate point of view from which to take a photograph. It is remarkable how much it varies in her photography. In this shot, for instance, the edge on macro worked very well to capture the graceful curves and lines of the leaf:

. . . the directly overhead view enhances the sense of the baby's vulnerability as we find it centered and isolated in its fetal position. of course, her superb use of light in this photo reminds us that the baby is NOT alone, nor in danger!
Of course, Jodie is certainly not afraid of looking at things straight on, either:

The architectural lines, colors and patterns are brought out by this eye-level approach, where these elements best juxtapose each other in pleasant ways.
This intimate point of view gives us a bug's eye view of these stems:

Jodie is also very adept at lighting, which usually augment her points of view. She seems to prefer a soft approach to light in many of her photographs, which give her photos a gentle, warm feel. I infer that she would like to portray the world through its ideals in her photography; this soft light is just one example of how cozy life can, or perhaps should, be.
Her light is not always soft, however. In this photo, she combines more direct light with point of view to communicate a feeling of fun and whimsy:

Jodie does a lot of things right; I've mentioned only two. Take a look at her stuff!

(Once again, if you are wondering, I select photographers for these profiles based on whether I, usually recently, learned something from them, and whether or not I can speak of their work in a lucid way. I consider them mentors, and hope to be as skilled as they are some day!)
I've also been meaning to point out that these are my perceptions; the photographers I profile certainly have other great strengths than the ones I mention! However, I learn a great deal by looking at various photographers from a specific point of view myself.

Excellent choice - I love Jodie's photos, her pictures are strong but have a real gentle side to them. They are very interesting. BTW, I also love these "Favorite Photographer Profiles".
