My daughter, hubby and I will be staying in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina from April 7-14. Anyone have any ideas for things to do, photos to take or people to meet (and shoot with)?

Spend hours beforehand praying for good weather. Our trip there this fall was very rainy and cloudy. Not even a good sunrise.

Lots to do. Don't miss the Ripleys Aquarium, play Cane Patch Par 3, etc., and DO NOT EAT AT THE FARMER'S DAUGHTER!!!!!!!

Myrtle Beach has been one of our vacation spots for the past 3 years. We love it there and lord willing will be there again this summer. I'm not even sure where to start with suggestions as there is so much to do and see there. Will you be in North Myrtle Beach or South Myrtle beach? I think in 3 years we still havent see everything there is to do there.

If you are into geocaching, there are a gazillion micro caches down there :)

We drove our 4 year old insane caching. Just wasn't a lot of fun for him. He wanted to play golf.

Looks like it south of Myrtle Beach. We'll be staying in a condo in Surfside Beach.

We haven't tried geocachging, but my hubby might really enjoy it. I'd have to invest in a GPS. I'm always trying to find something that he'd enjoy (besides basketball).

I live about an hour from there... go frequently. I'll probably be going sometime in April as a matter of fact!

Edit because I didn't read the entire first post

Personally I prefer North Myrtle, but it's all personal preference. Many of my friends prefer to go South of Myrtle and Surfside is certainly a good location.

Ripley's Aquarium is fantastic, I highly recommend it. It's located on the north end of Myrtle Beach at "Broadway at the Beach". That's kind of a cool shopping location and they have "Celebrity Square" there which is kind of a cool place to barhop (at least used to be). It's also not a bad place to go shopping though I prefer Barefoot Landing which is just down the street. You'll also find Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe, NASCAR Cafe, etc etc etc all in that same area.

The Pavilion just closed a few months ago and it might be interesting to see what they've done with the place if you're at all familiar with the area. I personally stay out of downtown Myrtle Beach (too crowded/touristy/cheesy for my taste), but it certainly is an interesting stretch of real estate.

You should at least cruise down Ocean Boulevard at least once just to say you've done it. Plenty of golf/mini-golf, etc. There's tons to do there.

The location goes with our timeshare, so that's all decided. I'm one who likes nature and history. The touristy stuff is not my favorite.

I'm a western desert person who has visited the east only twice - once to Florida(yes, Orlando and Disney) and the other to Virginia (BlueRidge, Jamestown & DC), so, I'd really like to visit the places that give a flavor of the area. We'll be driving down from Raleigh (saved a ton on airfare)and driving on daytrips is no big deal.

PPixels, thanks for the wonderful suggestions. If you're in the area during that week, we'd love to meet up for some shooting.

Myrtle Beach for us westerners is kind of, well, flat and touristy. My brother lived there for 16 years and I have been many times. There is a ton to do there if you like mini golf, racing go carts, going to cheezy shows, doing all the Had Rock type places etc. The kids always loved it and I liked the golf. It is really he golf capital of the world that time of the year. The area has well over 100 golf courses.

On the plus side it is within a day trip of Charleston, SC which has some interesting history stuff and in my opinion better photo ops. A little further (but more likely an overnight) is Savanah which als0 has history and phtoto ops.

Hope that helps without sounding to down.

Since the ocean is not especially inviting at that time of year, a few miles north is Wilmington/Outer Banks of NC. Of course, that will require some driving time as well.

Thanks - even if flat and touristy, it has a beach and ocean, which I don't get often (I know you do - yours is wonderful). Traveling for the history is fine by me.

Right now it hasn't gotten above 25 for a week. What may not be inviting to you, may be glorious to me.

I'd really like to see the Outer Banks.

I understand. I was more referring to the fact the water temp will probably be too cold to enjoy swimming in. Around that time of the year, it could be 70s and 80s or it could, well, not be. But the water will still be cool. :)

70's, 80's, I dream of temp like that on a cold night. Thanks for the warning on the water temps. I'll dip my toes and enjoy the sand (and sun, I hope.)
