I think that's a great photo, but, yeah, people would have moaned about the angle. |
I really don't see a problem with the angle. I thinks it's a supurb "Diagonal" shot. You're right about some voters though. I think many of them are just very shallow. If it were Cannon Beach, everyone would say it was wonderful. Sorry, just my feelings coming out! |

Cool, snaffles can't wait to see your shot!!! Isn't life funny? Now I'm all excited to go do wildlife shoot again - gives me an excuse. Thanks to all Team Suckmates you made me feel much better. This place really is like a big, happy (albeit somewhat disfunction, though in a good way) family. |

Oh yeah, a final note on Murphy's law...
Yesterday I get home from shooting, and guess what flies out of the big ol' apple tree where I shot my 12 Days pic? A PARTRIDGE!!!! Likely the same partridge that flew out of the tree after I got home from submitting - you guessed it - 12 Days.
Ah well what can you do. I'm off to buy a card reader now, then go home and painstakingly edit the pic...
Bye all, see you tomorrow! |

So do I, but in a challenge people just look for a reason to vote lower, I think. |

I just finished a lecture by Vincent Versace. It was fabulous! I took notes, and hope to share some of the points he made when I have time to write it up tonight. |

Unless you wanna see pigeons, I doubt I'll do anything for wildlife. Not sure where to even look around here, to tell you the truth.

I would like to do something like this for wildlife. Looks like I need a slow shutter speed and an interesting background? I was thinking of a neighborhood church yard but cloning out the virgin mary might be a no-no? |

No wildlife for me but hopefuly this weekend I can get "Entrance" and "Fill the frame" and maybe even the "Minimal" challenge. |

Wow. You can tell just from looking at those birds which one is named Mary and that she's a virgin? *hee hee*

I found that night shots work well for the minimal challenges. You still get a lot of color from the lights and generally don't have to do much color adjustment anyway. Maybe something like a neon sign.
This shot was for a "straight from the camera" challenge. |

Well now - quite proud of myself. I've actually entered another challenge.
I've been a little MIA for a few months, and just starting to force myself back into the thick of things (postpartum depression is a bitch, fwiw).
Put an entry that *I* love into Entrance. My idea for Exit bombed in the taking.
Now - Minimal and full frame - gotta work on that.
Why do I still feel as though I'm talking to myself ?

Kashi - good on ya for getting an entry in! And you're not talking to yourself. :-) (By the way, I do that all the time. Worse, sometimes I answer...)
Mary - enough motion blur and you won't have to clone out the Virgin Mary - she'll just make an interesting blob in the background.
Note of possible interest (or not) - I'm probably going to clean out my portfolio a bit this weekend. It's getting full and I want room to stick in more non-challenge stuff. I've been going through some of my folders and finding stuff I never edited, probably because it didn't fit a challenge... how silly is that? |

The score had dipped into the 5.9 range for awhile, but climbed back up. This mght get me into the upper 50%, but then again this is a "best of .." challenge..

I have to say I'd happily take a 6.0. :-) I'm definitely on the wrong side of the 50th percentile but I figure someone has to be, right? Can't all be on the plus side or the math wouldn't work. |

Originally posted by noraneko: I'm very upset. After my wildlife shoot on Monday, I uploaded my photos, chose my fave, did a little photoshop magic, and entered it. I was just flipping through those files, and happened to notice in the Exif data that it shows all of those photos originating on January 14, a day before the photos were actually taken. This is the second time I've reset the date on my camera, and the second time it has shifted (the first time was long before I joined DPC, and was only a minor irritant.) This time it means I probably will have to pull my photo from the challenge. I sent an e-mail to the site council (thank goodness I noticed before the voting started), but am really bummed about it, especially since it was my birthday treat to myself to go on that shoot. I guess I'm going to have to check my camera settings every time I shoot, since there seems to be a bug in there. |
Noraneko, if the photo is one you really like, pull it from Wildlife and put it in Free Study.
edit: OOPS. Too late, you already showed us the shot.

Like this, maybe. Seems to highlight the problem of lighting, as it has now gone from over-exposed centre to under-exposed edges. Full-face blitz is the culprit, I'll wager. Nice shot of your boy (I assume), but not too high on the pictorial quality without considering the subject.
ETA - it's the girl, right . . .

I was just saying that I think night shots work well. Not that it's the only way. |

Great news. Jumping at line-outs is a good 'stock shot', in case the optimistic action attempts don't pan out. You can get close up to it and you know where (and when) it's happening. Of course, as a professional, you won't be indulging in any of the post-match rituals. :) Have a pint of plain to drown my envy.
