I have lived in Colorado for four and a half years, and I have never been skiing or snowboarding. Tomorrow morning, I'll be taking my first ever snowboarding lesson. Everyone in Winter Park should be warned!

Good luck. I work at a ski resort and have never been interested in downhill. Have been snowshoeing for about 2 years and just took my first cross country ski lesson last Sunday.

Yes, be prepared to spend a lot of time on your butt. :) I'm a skier myself (since I was about 12). One year, I thought I'd give snowboarding a go. How hard could it be? I'd spent a lot of time surfing growing up so I thought to myself, "pretty similar". Not really. :) Needless to say, I ended up turning in the snowboard after a couple of hours and going back to my skis. :)
I may give a try again sometime because it just looks like so much fun and a helluva lot easier dealing with one board as opposed to all the skis and poles. Yes, I'm that lazy. :)
Have fun and be safe!

Trust me, wear kneepads and maybe even a pillow on your butt.
(Unless of course you're an extreme skateboarder, then you shouldn't have any trouble)
Have fun!! |

The first time I ever went snowboarding I did spend a good deal of time on my hind end, however the next day it was my arms that were sore.... from pushing myself up over and over! |

Heh, I found $25 ski pants at Sports Authority and some wrist guards, and Kennda is bringing knee pads for me. It should be quite an adventure!

hey I was up at winter park yesterday, im out here visiting a buddy.
too bad we didn't get snow. I had to spend most of my day up in the trees by parsenn's bowl looking for any sort of fresh tracks.
How'd your first day out go? Hope you're not too sore. |

Maybe her butt is too sore to sit in front of a computer.

Sorry, I got home just in time to watch the Bears game.
The instructor was of the very cute and British sort, but this is not the reason why I couldn't stay up on the board without his help. I just flat out sucked! I can see where I'd be okay at it if I had a lot of opportunity to practice, say for a week straight with private instruction, but for now it's a no go.
The one time I did try to run down the bunny slope on my own, I made it about a half foot before I crashed onto my shoulder. The shoulder was fine, but it jerked my head and neck around pretty badly, one of those things where you feel your brain bounce around inside your skull. I had a headache for the rest of the day, and woke up today with a very sore neck - but no more headache.
No photos, since I wasn't about to smash up my camera.

Glad you're ok.
I have found there is as much honor in watching the hill as there is navigating the hill, the chalet and bar are there for a reason :) |

The verdict is still out on that, though absolutely everyone agreed that you really have to do it twice to know. It'll be awhile before I can get back up, though.
