Well done! Your image is superb and you just got a ribbon. Would you send out the original to another user if requested, say, for a poster print for his living room?

To start it off... I would, and I would be proud.

I'd like to know what others think

Isn't that what DPC Prints is for?
01/19/2007 09:59:33 AM · #3
Yes, but not all photos are available, of those available not all can be printed at 20'x30', as well as the cost is higher. Also, I would feel better sharing my photos than selling them.

So, why not get their info from them and have it printed youself? You could mail it to them and they would have it! :)

There are several prints I would love to have off of here... but DPC Prints doesn't have MEtallic paper.... so I will either wait til they offer it, or just admire them from here.

I'm just saying that as an amateur I wouldn't mind sharing my photos. And if I was a pro, then I wouldn't count on DPCPrints for income. I was under the impression that DPC was a hobby for everyone involved.

Well. .for me personally, I don't have any problem sharing my photos and giving them to people for free -- but I like to be the one who prints them because I don't want someone taking my original and having it printed at a sub-standard printer, i.e. in-house at Wal-Mart because every print I've ever gotten at Wal-Mart is an awful yellow color -- or Walgreens who all-too often gives you prints that aren't straight on the page. I'm picky about making sure that at least if my work is out there, it looks as good as it possibly can look -- free or not. That's why I would never do a wedding and just give someone a CD and let them print the pictures themselves. The lab you use makes a huge difference in the quality of the finished product.

I'd say it depends on who it is. Someone you trust? Or just someone random? Sharing for free is, of course, perfectly fine. You just don't want that person to start selling it.

Anyone else?

I think it would be pretty rude to ask that question in the first place. I'd ALWAYS, ALWAYS offer to pay and if they decide to give it away, then great.

It's like asking, "Can you give me 20 bucks? It's not a big deal, it's just 20 bucks."

What levy413 says is the biggest problem with most here. They will give a photo for free, but there is a nagging doubt as to whether the person who requested it will use it solely for the purpose stated.

Some of the photos from challenges have gone on to become big sellers. Many have won competitions involving prize money, so there is always the possibility that your free photo could net someone a tidy profit. If you are comfortable giving away your photos, then do so in the knowledge that you have made someone happy by having a great print for their wall.

It is one of those topic where there is no right or wrong answer. It is personal choice.

Depends on if Photography is purley a hobby or if you are a pro. A pro must charge a hobbiest probably doesn't care.

I don't know where I fall. I really don't want to make money at this, but I also just feel weird about having 300dpi 3000 pixel images floating around. I would feel awful if somebody profited off my work without my permision. And I feel that I would probably not have much of a chance under copyright law to get what I deserve because truley copyrighting an image cost money, and I won't invest in my hobby like that.

I totally am on the same page here as Sandy. I just gave two prints to my coworkers kids as they are moving into their new house and wanted them to decorate their walls. The coworker offered to pay for them and said eh would even get them printed off at WalMart to save me from using my paper and print ink. I told him the prints for his kids were free, but only if I printed them myself. This gave me control over the finished product. I'm happy, and his kids are happy.

Why not just put the image on DPCPrints and let your friend order his/her print from there?

Nope.
