OK... I keep seeing DPC get together forums for places I used to live like New York and DC.
I live in Colorado Springs and would participate in a DPC GTG. Any others interested?

I live in Salt Lake, but would love to drive up to Colorado somewhere for a GTG. I've driven I-70 on the way to Denver and that is some beautiful area up there.

I am up towards Northern CO (Greeley-60 minutes north of Denver). Love to get together for this. Depending when and how far. Love to get into the canyons, again. There is a spectacular area around Grand Junction for that. Then there is always great mountain areas in the middle of the state. What are some ideas?

I live in Colorado Springs. I have three small children and we are very busy. I'm not sure if I can make a 6 hour drive to the Grand Junction area this time. It is beautiful there, though, especially around Glenwood Springs.
I could do something in Colorado Springs (Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, Palmer Park, etc) or do a city trip to Denver.

I'm not sure is a "central" location for us. The Rocky Mountains are in our way! Grand Junction sounds good to me. It's about 7 hours away. Denver is about 10-12 hours. Another option at this time of year might be Dinosaurland National Park in eastern Utah near Vernal. There is a good highway going through the mountains there. How close is that to folks. It's lovely, classic "Utah canyon country" there.

I have not been to Dinosaur since I was a kid. Same trip that I chased my brother over a rock ledge at Mesa Verde (my Dad barely caught him by the pants). Not sure how far it is from Greeley, but guessing a 6-8 hour shot, since it is up towards the NW border. If Im remember there is a quick shot up through WY to there.

Dinosaur NP might be a fun one to go to. Let me know what is decided in case I lose this in the forums.

I live half way between Denver and Colorado Springs and may be able to make a GTG depending on time and location. I would also recommend if you are thinking about the Grand Junction area, heading south on 550 (the million dollar highway) and do the Telluride and Ouray area. Absolutely spectacular views, Mtn. Peaks, wildflowers, and cascading waterfalls. Just a thought.

OK, it looks like we have two suggestions here, Eastern Utah, Dinasour, or Grand Junction. If we were in the more northern parts of CO/Utah, would some of you WY folks want to come too?

Sounds like this would be fun...I would love to get together with you all...has anyone thought of a date yet?
06/16/2003 07:32:39 PM · #13
Northern Colorado here and it looks like 6-8 hours to wherever for me. I am well situated to Interstates to the north and middle CO, without much problem. The dates is the question. How soon? July, August, Fall? My schedule at this time only goes to middle of July, so I can probably be pretty flexible (as long as I can get dates in early enough)
By the way...I am starting to plan a Fall canyon run in UT. Want to go to Canyonlands (see All American Man Picto), and some other places (Grand Gulch area). Hopefully a main camp spike and then dayhike stuff or maybe one over nighter somewhere deep in the backcountry. Still planning this though

Actually the two main choices, so far, are Grand Junction area or Eastern Utah (Vernal area), with a few other suggestions. I'll go anywhere, but would prefer a drive of less than 8 hours.

Greeley is just miles away from Rocky Mountain NP!

Well, when you all get around this area, let me know.
Pitsaman, when ya gonna be at RMNP? Ya have a schedule for it? I have spent a bit of time up there. Alot of it outside the park and north of Estes. There is quite a few aircraft wrecks around there. I still need to get back to see a B-17, and shoot photos.
RMNP is 41 miles away from Greeley. (:

I'm up for a GTG. I'm also in Colorado Springs and if the GTG isn't too far away I'll do my best to be there. If I can't make it to the main GTG I wouldn't mind getting together with the group from this immediate area too.

I started to head to Ouzel Falls (with Calypso Cascades and another falls on the way) on Sat, but the clouds rolled in early, and had the 1 yr old with so I scrapped that idea. Still need to hit that one. Is a 6 mile round trip.
Quite a few falls in RMNP that are not as regularly seen by the masses. Fun FUn

RMNP might be a cool trip too. It would be great to take some shots of some falls.
