Is there any chance DPC could have chosen a worse week for wildlife photos for people living in the US? (Aside from SC, of course!) Plus I heard there is a rare hurricane headed for Germany? Hopefully not to your neck of the woods, Deb!

Unless I'm confused you would probably need a good image-stabilized telephoto lens for wildlife?

I don't think I have the lens for this one.

Don - I agree that many excellent wildlife photos are taken with a tripod and telephoto. However, I've actually done better in some situations - including very fast exposure to capture birds in flight - with hand held standard lens. The essential ingredient, of course, is a lot of light if you don't have a telephoto and tripod.

Hi everyone, off to shoot wildlife soon (no not horsey butts, as threatened yesterday) and here's what's happening in the Ottawa Valley:

Welcome to our new teammates, I think you'll enjoy it here!

Happy birthday to the little cutie! Though normally I am immune to cuteness, he got a grin and an awww out of me!

NikonJeb, must go see if you commented yet on my pix...

And have yet to decide whether to do exit/entrance. Can you also do something entrancing, I wonder?

Bye now, gotta go shoot Bambi!

I wasn't aware it's a hurricane, but we are indeed having a Wind Event. I don't have German TV - I don't have ANY TV at the moment - so I haven't been following along. The German version of Weather.com indicates no warnings but lemme tell ya, the wind is seriously howling here. And from what I understand, that's very unusual. And it's quite warm for winter here at the moment, too.

Are we very sure that a wild housecat named Thomas the Terrible, captured in his natural environment (like say on the back of the couch) wouldn't count as Wildlife?

Wildlife is out for me. Right now, the weather is just not conducive to that unless I want to wait for a squirrel to happen along. However, I do have some ideas for "Entrance".

One thing about Saginaw is that there is a lot of old buildings from the 1800's. Hopefuly, I can get out this weekend and shoot a few of them. Unfortunately, during the week, it's dark when I get home from work.

What ever happened to cuspie and liltritter? Haven't seen anything from them in a while.

Looks like most challenges are out for at least another week. Camera arrived today, wrong model K110D. So, it has to go back and they are sending the right one.

Still, back to old username again.

Let us know what you think of the K100D after you have used it for a bit.

They are still around. liltritter stopped by on her birthday. Looks like Cuspie enters the monthly free studies.

They got to that one fast. It often takes a few days.

Julianne, did you get validated yet? Or was it someone else?

I'm in Wildlife. With this busy week, I only had one afternoon to shoot. So my entry is okay, but not as spectacular as I would have liked.

I mostly use my camera hand-held, with the built in 12x zoom, and a fast shutter speed, when shooting wildlife. Sometimes I use a monopod, but half the time I am still hand-holding the camera with the monopod dangling down loosely. I find that unless I am aiming at a nest and waiting for some nice action in that exact spot, in which case a tripod is appropriate, I would rather have the freedom of motion and fast reaction time that hand holding allows.

BTW, my Battle of the Sexes entry was validated. Phew!

I feel left out. I've never ever been asked to validate anything. Wah!

Probably won't be in wildlife. Supposed to rain all weekend here and that's my shootin' time. Maybe I'll have to figure out how to put a baggie on the camera.

Validation is overrated. I went from 4th place to nothing. I had accidently set the year in my camera to 2005 instead of 2006.

aaah!:) welcome to my little world Mary. the time here is one year behind everybody's time but that's what make it special, right?
I'm sorry to hear that though!:(

Trying to comment on as many BO 2006 entries as I can. Have I got any team suck members yet?

Not me, keep trying! Deb got me though.

Kelli got me, too, but you haven't yet Bob. I'm not quite finished voting yet - will try to finish up tomorrow after work. Stats thus far:
You have rated 565 of 706 images (80%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 120 images (17%) in this challenge.

I have 18 comments and had a score below 6 and heading south when I turned off scores earlier in the week.

You've missed me, but there is still time.

For those who don't know me now. I was formerly sodoff, before that I was formerly Formerlee.

I'm happy to report that out of 21 comments on my Best of 2006 entry, 3 come from Team Suck! Thank you to kdsprog, melethia and silverfoxx!
I hope to return the favor to one and all. Have voted, am still fine-tuning and commenting.

Come morning, I expect most of Europe to be somewhere in the former USSR. It really is a bit on the windy side!

BO 2006 is tricky - no great surprise, but I think I have to vote relative to the other pictures - otherwise 10-20 tens would be in order.

ETA that I have a posthumous and a silverfoxx in my comments collection so far.
