ok long story short my camera fell last night when taking shots for Match contest
the camera survived no injuries but the 18-55 kit lense plastic mount...well snapped. so Im looking for a replacement lenses on the cheap for now.
I found a sigma 28-70 f2.8-4 DG for $70 and was wondering if anyone could comment on it or suggest another lens in that focal range. |

Get the 50mm 1.8 for $70. Zoom with your feet. Best $70 you'll ever spend.

If you was in the UK you could of borrowed my old kit lens until you saved up for something a bit beefier.. the 50mm prime IS a nice lens for the money, but a bit limiting if it was your only lens.. |

The cheaper end Sigma 18-50 is good (the 2.8 version is incredible)
The Sigi 28-70 is nice (2.8 version again is brilliant) if you found one for $70 then I'de say go for it you will always keep it because its better IMO than the Canon one you just broke but is a bit tight at the wide end

'sup justin?
want my advice? get the 50mm. I know it is just a prime and therefore seems less versatile. When I got it I thought I would use it just every now and then. In the last 3 months, when taking photos of people, I have been using that lens only. Shooting exclusively at 1.8. The look is so cool. It is not an effect, but a way to bring you closer to the subject. I absolutely love it. Plus it is great in low light.

unfortunatly the wife also uses this camera so thats out of the question as a prime is beyond her understanding
** Wife requested edit**
She understands primes she does not like zooming via foot after a 20 mth old.

This one? Yes, I love it. It's not a bad lens at all. Just a tad soft if you bump all the way down to the wide end, but not so soft as to be unusable.
It does suffer some color fringing with backlit subjects. Again, not so bad as to be unmanageable.

Did a 100% crop for you to look at.
The 100% crop is straight from the RAW converter, no sharpening.
f/11 at 40mm.
