Umm....that'd be "WildDead"!

Aw, you're just bored 'cause you can't get outta your door through the six feet of snow to make a snowman!

You've just named three of my favorite sayings. I even wrote a poem about the child inside (in college, poetry was my creative outlet).

Do you know the song "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack? The key phrase is:
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance, I hope you dance.

That song came out in 2001 and between 9/11 and the anthrax attacks (remember I live near Washington, DC), we featured it in that year's holiday letter. I still feel it when I hear the song.

How about "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim McGraw? It's about how a guy reacted when he learned he might be dying. Here's the chorus:
I went sky diving
I went Rocky Mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named fumanchu
and I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter
and I gave forgiveness I'd been denying
and he said someday I hope you get the chance
to live like you were dying.

Those two songs, and the sayings you quoted, sum up my approach to life.

Thanks Deb! I needed that...sigh. I'm getting alot of not so nice comments on the b&w.

On a brighter note, I just returned from a second interview for a job as a business manager for an adult technical school. It went really well, I've connected with both the owner and the director, so we'll see.

Hmmm...I was wondering about that too, esp. with the sudden onset of winter with actual snow! And it's pretty cold out too, and I noticed in a hurry that my cams don't like the cold. I try to keep them warm by stashing them in a mickey pocket. What do other shooters do in the cold to keep cams warm 'n happy?

I keep the camera underneath my coat.

If it is very cold, I seal the camera in a zip lock plastic bag before bringing it indoors.

As to bringing a camera in from the cold...just do as I am doing--we have no power and the inside temp is not much warmer than the outside temp, so no problem! :)

DO TOO !

You can't blame me for a single fluke shot (and that's only looking decent because of a huge amount of post-editing.

Poor you, getting caught in that big ol' storm. We got snow but no freezing rain, thank god, so hope your power's back soon!

Hehehhehe...a mickey pocket is that very useful small inner pocket usually found in guys' jackets/coats, just big enough to slip a flask of booze into. I don't know why they call them mickey pockets, just that my camera fits nicely into them!

Besides, mens' coats seem to be better made than women's, and most women's jackets/coats don't fit me that well.

And they don't have mickey pockets. ;-)

a mickey is that small bottle of booze, the one shapd like a hip flask. or an even smaller amount, kept in a separate bottle, to pour into an innocent's drink, to render them drunk. so i guess a micky pocket is a good place to hide your mickey... ?

mmm, truro. i'm on the south shore, where we are finally getting winter. after months of green and bizarrely warm weather, we've had a mild snowstorm, freezing rainall day, and it's threatening to go to -18 tomorrow (-22 tonight). i can see setting my alarm to wake up in the night and feed the fire...

Ditto here, though sans freezing rain, just tons o' snow. -14 today. Talking about the weather! You can tell we're Canadian, eh? BTW I did live for a few months in Hartland, NB...helped some friends set up a B&B there. I would love to return to the Maritimes and spend some time visiting and shooting pix.

well i shot for match, and am not happy with the results. if it was advanced editing, i could do something with it, but in basic, it's just not up to what i want. it's not awful, it's just, there. and i can't reshoot - reluctant models to begin with. so...

ooo, i just had an idea. maybe...

hey, rosemary,

don't be so down on yourself. the most important thing to do in photography is to take lots of pictures. take your camera everywhere.

next, really look at your surroundings. try to focus in on what you're shooting. if you don't have a zoom, be the human zoom - walk up to it. try to notice angles, shadows and highlights. of all, i'd say angles are the most important. try to really see what is in your frame when shooting.

oop, the child calls...

snaffles posted question on my procrastination entry asking how I got the goat to sit on the bench. Well, I could tell you, but that would reveal my secret communication skills with goats...wait, that doesn't sound too good. Actually, he was just sitting there in a petting zoo. The guy feeding the animals said he does it all the time. Guess he likes getting above it all, so to speak.

cosprenks I find your skull and grass photo interesting. I like the interplay of colors and juxtoposition of new life and death. Quick question for you: do you shoot on automatic or manual mode?
