Oh......trust me, like you have no idea.
I want an honest, back and forth exchange, a genuine technical aspects critique, and this little "incident" should probably give me a grasp, once and for all, as to what the parameters are for DPC entries.
The boundaries have been set and tested IMNSHO.

Okay......after the ribbon thread where for whatever reason, kivte and skewsme were forgotten, I looked at their profiles.
I have also looked at most of our profiles, and......we do *NOT* suck!
One line I noticed that both made me laugh and elicited a resounding "Oh, yeah!" was ,"Be an artist, not a score whore.".
We seem to have a world of talent and experience tempered with compassion and common sense.....a really nice combination.
Hey, let me know if my musings bug anyone, but I'm fascinated by this "ragtag group of militia...um..photographers..."
There seems to be more than one philosopher, and an awful lot of people from the "been there, done that, got the tee shirt, wore it out, threw it in the rag bucket" category.
I like to think that if there ever comes a "Photography Emergency", that there are plenty of candidates here that could throw together a bag and be fully capable of taking off at a moment's notice to deal with whatever went down. Bizarre concept, but I know from what I've seen and dealt with in life that I can handle damn near anything and it has helped me appreciate so much more the good and beauty 'cause I've seen so much of the not so nice side of life. Real feeling and beauty seems to reside in the hearts and eyes of the members of this crew. I been taggin' favorites right and left out of these portfolios.
And the way that the conversation can go right down the tubes at a moment's notice with silliness is priceless.
Life's short.....dance like nobody's watching, love like it's the last chance you'll have, see the world through the unfettered eyes of the child you are inside, take pictures of it all, and thank God for it all!

It's a shame when your best of the year can't beat your own highest score. I'm still proud of the shot though.

Nonononono. Based on your last couple of entries, you have to shoot a pic of one of the following for Wildlife:
a) a dead bug
b) A Volkswagen Beetle
c) A Volkswagen Golf (title: Sorta like a Rabbit)
d) A heavy weight around your neck (title: Albatross)
|
Jeffrey, ROFLMAO. I would love it if someone shot one of these so well it won a ribbon (not the brown) :-) |

I've got a great landscape in portrait orientation I was thinking of entering - there's bound to be wildlife in there somewhere! But the challenge hadn't been announced yet. Darn.
Kelli, I haven't voted in B&W but I do know which one is yours and it's quite wonderful. And you already know what I think of your Free Study. :-)
Oh and Jeb? You're more than welcome to leave comments as you browse portfolios, you know. You can share what you've learned from your mentor and stuff.

Never happen!
There are too many stuffed-shirts, stiff-necks, and trolls to appreciate the truly creative and provocative OOB entries.

Hey, I find myself wanting to put up more shots in my portfolio and just ask you guys for your take on it.
You mind?
Edit: Did I really say "throw stuff up"?
Sorry!!!

I just put my entry into Wildlife III. It's a very solid entry, sharp, decent DOF etc. but it isn't giving me any tingles. I think I may be getting hyper-critical of my own wildlife photos, as I shoot a lot of them (and seem to get the best results here and elsewhere). I may go out again and see if I get anything truly inspiring. Would like to try for pelican silhouettes diving at dusk. |

DO NOT!!!!
It wasn't until my ribbon aberration that I had an entry within half a point of your high score, and I don't suck......it's a LEARNING CURVE!!!

Oh, MAN!!!!
I was reading this and thought, "Yeah, that!" when you were talking about a good solid entry with decent DOF.....I submitted mine this morning and I have a slightly different take on the DOF than usual for me.....ditto on the tingles, it's just a decent shot.
Then you had to go and talk about the pelicans and make me feel like I should just yank mine out.
Oh, heck, I'll just see if I can re-establish my suckage index.......wait!!!
I have my B&W entry for that!!!!

OK, point taken, got my wrist slapped. Won't do that. Here are current scores for Song and Battle, which is actually going up quite fast.

Okay, NikonJeb, who is the red ribbon winner here, hmmmm? Just because I'd like to try a photo of pelicans diving at dusk doesn't mean they wouldn't look like alien blobs plopping into an over-saturated sea :-) |

I have a question:
Does a dead bird froze to death in the back yard count as wildlife?
I think we should have a challenge for the people in the northern part of the country like "Winter Sports" or something like that. |
