Ok Im not sure if the guy was trying to make a sale by feeding me BS but I went to a local camera store and as they only had Canon lenses for Canon cameras I asked about Sigma and Tamron and they told me that some where in the warranty is that only Canon lenses can be used on Canon cameras and if a third party lens is used the warranty is immediately void!!??
I haven't found anything to support that yet but can anyone shed any light on this?
I'm forced in to getting a much cheaper lens than first anticipated due to unforscene circumstances and Ill just leave it at that. Anyway I was thinking of a Sigma lens but if theres a chance that its going to void my warranty then its back to the drawing board...
Thanks in advance,
-dave

To be safe, you should call Canon's 800# and ask - their customer service is pretty good. But.... sounds like total bullshit to me.

LOL thanks Cindi I never even thought of that. I just called Canon Canada and they said that it will not void the warranty unless something goes horribly wrong that the lens actually damages the camera but the guy I talked to said that its highly unlikely that would happen.

If a 3rd party lens specificallydamages the camera Canon can refuse to service it. And may say you have to seek damages from the lens maker.
Though it's fairly hard to prove that it was the lens that caused the damage. Heck, I had nightmare problems with my Canon 20D & 70-200mm f/2.8 IS. Went to the shop 5 times. They finally replaced the whole package.
Why, because Canon could not determine where the problem lie - be it the lens or the body.
