Boy this week has been fun! I took this picture simply for the reaction of DPC’ers, and it has really worked. I received 17 comments the first day, which is a record for any of my pictures. I am amazed at the number of folks that think it was directed at the poor old Ford line of automobiles. I don’t dislike all Fords, I think the earlier ones were well designed; if not, the hot rod Chevy V-8 engine wouldn’t have fit in them so well. With that out of the way, let’s take a look at the garbage in my “Garbage” entry. I feel that it is loaded with things that completely clutter up our environment. For starters traffic lights that are Red, Green and Amber all at the same time. What the heck are you gonna do if you come to this situation? Look at all of the power lines crossing the picture, and all of the signs. Notice that there are three traffic signs, within about 15 feet of each other, telling you that you can go 35 miles per hour, and that there are red, green, and amber lights ahead, but do not park. This is early morning in California and the SMOG is already clouding up the air. How much of a chance does the poor little tree, (which just happened to be planted about one third of the way from the left edge of the picture), have in this environment? I guess the large pole was planted next to it to help hold it up when it starts to die out. Of course the city planning department thought of that by putting a fire hydrant close by so when the tree dried up and caught fire from a passing motorist’s discarded cigarette they could save the new Ford cars. If this isn’t a “Garbage” picture I don’t know what is.
Keep Shootin’ and have fun.

I did not comment your picture I think ... but anyway I do not like that much the idea of 'testing' (if it is really the case). Even if it is to prove something ... true or wrong ...

Autool, I liek the picture more now that I knwow what you were going for. I found out early on (in the Childhood Challenge) that reading will be the downfall of any great photo. The problem is the huge number of Ford signs that dominate the picture. Of course, people will gravitate towards what is most easily understood - the path of least resistance. In a contest of 200+ entries, can you blame us?
I like what you tried to say, but I would encourage you to go back and shoot again, and try to say it in a different way.
Thanks for not just dropping our misunderstandings and leaving it at that.
