Just to emphasize, it's Windows Messenger, not a different messaging client.

Hmmm... that is interesting because I just did the Java update last night myself. I was thinking about this as being a possible culprit, since it's pretty much the only thing I've changed on the system at all in recent days. |

Hmm maybe I'll fiddle around with that and see if anything changes. |

I updated my java last night on both my laptop and my desktop and I haven't had any problems (so far). I don't have any ideas on helping you, other than do a safe start and see what happens. |

Maybe I will kill my computer with an axe. That might fix it. |

I've gone a couple hours now without the problem recurring, so that's really weird. I'd like to think that it fixed itself, but I'm still not optimistic. |

I should stress that for me it hasn't been a *browser* issue -- it has affected any program I've been using at the time, with or without a browser even being open. |

*nod* This could be the same, just that lately I am using the browser more than other apps. So I'm more likely to notice it there.
I haven't seen it since maybe 6pm.
Will see if it happens tomorrow. Maybe it's gone. |

Sounds like some kind of spyware messing your computer...

Alan, I think I know what's wrong. Your PC has ADD. Ritalin is the only solution. |

You may be right! I tried pouring NyQuil all over the keyboard, but that seems to be causing more problems. |

I've heard that if you play the Windows install CD backwards you get Satanic messages . . . .
What's even scarier is that if you play the Windows install CD forwards, it installs Windows.

I have discovered further evidence in my investigation.
Today it happened again as I typed my first forum response of the day. So, I thought, "hmm what else is happening" and pressed alt+tab immediately, holding the tab down to see the list of apps.
A little window was there saying "downloading".
So something is being naughty, for sure.
Then I checked my network activity monitor. Every 30 seconds something is calling out. Where's it going?
85.214.80.211 www.spamihilator.com
Looks like my anti-spam thing is dialing home every 30 secs! Or, at least, something is using that address for some reason.
HMMM. So I opened up the program itself, and checked settings - it's set to automatically update. In the program is the same window you can press a button to get.
I think you have this same program, and probably the domain has broken or something. I will turn off auto-updates in that program to see if it stops it. If not I may have to take more drastic action - a shame because it seems like a good program.
I think you have probably also got this program because we discussed it here. |
