Sorry to butt in, but that was really tactless!! Please remember that in different parts of the world, there are people who have different values. I work for a UAE family, values are not based on material objects. To many in UAE and other nations closeby, the best available is normal, why buy cheap when you can get the best.

option, I realise the green eyed god is there, but it is a cultural matter.

UAE_Guy, I feel I must ask this...you have the best gear, but no membership?? Why??

Good question.
first it is not free.
Second i was looking to sign and pay no problem, but because they don't accept Visa Cridet card so then i ignored to register for full membership.
Third, it was just one year when i collected all these gears, just prepaired, so for now i have to get better photos and results, i have to time to improve, and when i will have decent amazing photos then i can share here as a member.

I think you have the photos. I am sure DPC accept VISA.

I have explained how to upload, but only members can upload to portfolio.

Equipment doesn't make for better photos, joining in and learning from people here will make better photos. You can own every lens ever made by Canon, every camera, but in the end it is you, the person behind the camera. You have great photos, so become a member and let's get this thing going.

I think UAE_Guy has too much equipment to choose from and is hindering the creative process. As a favor, I will kindly volunteer to take some of the excess ;-)

I was waiting for an appearance, Leroy! Just explain to UAE_Guy, that we are all here to gain! NO, not freebies, but knowledge.

Heeyyy not so fast, I was jealous first. No pentax lenses, you say? I would glady accept a 5D to accommodate some of the superfluous Canon glass...

So can't I replace the photo before the end of the Voting? hehe :-)

You can't change images during voting because that would not be fair to those who have already voted. They would have to vote again, and that is assuming they knew that you had changed photographs and actually wanted to vote again, which they probably would not.

Your responsibility is to get the image right BEFORE voting. That is the name of the game. If later you discover you've done something wrong that can be corrected it is to late to change. At a learning site like DPChallenge it is considered positive learning to be applied to your NEXT submissions.

Oh, it is not that you CAN'T reveal your submission before the end of voting, it is that is unacceptable site etiquette that you do so. There are no rules specifically forbiding it, but members have been excluded from the site for revealing their entries and soliciting votes. Anonymity is fundamental to the site. The assumption is that voters cannot fairly evaluate an image if they know the submitter beforehand. Under those conditions it is assumed that voting degenerates into a popularity contest as it has at other photo sites.

This technique works. It takes longer and it is harder to get higher scores but makes you a better photographer in the end. And that, after all, is what you are here for in the first place.

Right and wrong.
sure the photographer makes the photo, but with right kit as well. i can't beat professionals with simple limited kit, for example alot complaint that in sports that D70 and 350D are not good, even i was shooting some sports for first time beside a guy who is been shooting for long time ago and he was using D70s and i used 1D MarkIIN, the results was so clear mine is the best in color and composition and so, how come he was shooting longer than me but he didn't beat me as i am new in sports photography?
Sure the photographer do alot to the photos, but we can't ignore that life become easier and with camera got many features it will make the shooting much easier and then learning faster, i couldn't do that with only XT, and now if you saw my new photos with upgraded kit then you will see the difference. but you are right in that Wisedom.

And now i got higher score with my new submission, so that good, just i need time slowly slowly to learn and get improved.
and that doesn't mean i have to take these submission as measurment, i got alot of photos which are much better than what i submitted and i think i can get higher score if i can submit them in right challenge.
just i was around watching this site and i stopped to share as i was in trip and try all or most of my kit to find out how i can control my kit and then i can take photos with better settings and i remember rules of photography and so, only i need to be more careful now with my next shots.

Actually, there are rules forbidding it.

Actually, I wish DPC would adopt another payment method as an alternative to Paypal. Paypal isn't at all the best solution to online payments.
01/15/2007 05:51:40 PM · #42
Yea, for people like UAE_Guy they should just accept payment in gold bars or bags of diamonds.

Actually you are in error. Being the anal knitpicker that I am, that statement does NOT forbid revealing an entry to other members. It mearly suggests that doing so MIGHT affect voting. That comes in the realm of site etiquette, not specific rule. Discouraging a behavior is not the same thing as forbiding it.

A specific rule against it would say something like:
'Revealing your submission to any voter(s) for any reason before voting is completed will result in immediately disqualification'

It does not say that and therefore does not forbid it. It is just a matter of site etiquette, that is all.

Members have been excluded from site participation not becuse they have revealed their entries to other members prior to the end of voting, but because it was believed they were soliciting high votes. That is different.

Heck, both you and I are violating etiquette just by responding to the post. :)
