This could be skewed because of the fact that I do not vote on any challenges in which I am entered. Whew! I don't feel as bad now. ;-)

2.3 (44603/19385 received in 95 challenges)
I disagree that >1 is necessarily a "good" average. That depends on your perspective. I tend to vote on all entries and vote some challenges I have not entered. Some people would correctly suggest that time would be better spent taking more and/or better pictures. Look at Librodo and jjbeguin for examples of that.

I don't get out from my basement much due to medical reasons so my choices of subjects are normally extremely limited. I'm not really here for the challenges though honestly, I'm here for the forums. I like the people here and learn a lot from them.
That's probably the main reason the statistic will never mean much - the motivation people have for being here will always be different and as well as the interest level in the various aspects of the site.
There are lots of people who enter and never use the forums. Some are here just for DPCprints. Some are here just to ogle the naked ladies. There is no statistic that could every really sum up the value of a member on the site. |

That is a fitting quote to sum up the whole discussion! |

That would be me, with Kirbic not too far behind and undieyatch in the mix, too.
I have always found that voting is the part of the site that helps me learn the most, and inspires me to learn new things (and, consequently, has cost me thousands of dollars in new equipment since I joined...!).
I used to make an attempt to enter *every* challenge, too, and I think I may have gone as far as 100 in a row when I first joined. |

Like Alan, I find that voting is a wonderful learning tool. I never have been a prolific submittor to challenges, but I've been a steady voter since early 2003. I do vote "in the order received" because it forces me to study images that I might not otherwise give a second glance. I'm much the better for it.
When it comes to all-around participation, IMO, Alan has to be head & shoulders above the rest. Not only is he the laading all-time voter, but he has submitted to 240 challenges and commented on several thousand images as well. This in addition to SC duties. My stats pale in comparison. My hat (and hair, for that matter) is off to the man with the top hat!
Another guy that spins my head around is GeneralE. 405 challenges entered (!!!) and over 3,000 comments given, as well as having been on the SC since the last ice age. Paul's a bit of a slacker in the voting department though ;-) |

That's very kind of you to say... but I've definitely never looked at it that way at all. In fact, I've always looked up (WAY up!) to kirbic and several other people who have contributed to the site in much more beneficial ways than I have. I cast a lot of votes and enter quite a few of the challenges, but those things tend to just benefit me and my development as a photographer, where several other people do a heck of a lot more than I do to benefit everybody else.
A few folks come to mind as having incredible knowledge about technical aspects of photography, like kirbic, Scalvert and GeneralE. Others like Manic, Bear_Music, ClubJuggle and many more are really super good at lending help to other people, whether it's a technical issue, or diplomatic one. (Apologies to the many others I'm failing to mention by name!)
Like someone said previously in this thread, participation comes in many forms and no statistic can really measure who is on top. There are certainly many, many more people who are waaaay higher up on the list than I am, that's for sure! |
