Other than eBay and Adorama/ B&H, where do you look when looking for used stuff?
Thanks! |

Amazon has some used equipment too from third-party sellers.

Besides eBay...
In Australia there is a magazine called "Photographic Trader" which is roughly 50% full of free unclassified ads for (mostly) second-hand photographic gear (the rest is trader ads of new and second-hand gear, plus a few articles). I've picked up some good gear from there. |

I second KEH. I haven't actually bought from them, but I read all the time about them being good. I would suggest calling them also. Often times, they'll run to the warehouse to check on parts.
I do plan on buying a Hassleblad from them one of these days. |

Your profile doesn't list your location.
KEH as a previous poster mentioned is good. Houston Camera Exchange does a good used business.
You can also look at pawn shops as a potential source for second hand gear.
That said, the used photo equipment market has changed dramatically with the digital photography revolution. In the film days buying a 5 or 10 year old camera was a good way to delve into photography at a reasonable price. A 10 year old film camera was jut as capable of taking a good photo as a new camera since the film and lenses the main quality consideration. A Nikon F with a good lens can take the same quality photo as a Nikon F4.
Digital cameras changed all that. The first pro-level SRLs were 1 mega pixel and coast over $15,000. You couldn't give that camera away today.
Lenses are somewhat a still viable option for used gear, but even lenses have chips in then that will make them unusable on some newer cameras.
If you are in the market for a 1 to 2 year old camera you can still get something decent. But as prices for new cameras keep coming down it makes it hard to justify the purchase of a used camera with less features and resolution.
Just my 2 cents.

Aside from the time when Sigma lenses required re-chipping (which Sigma did for free for anyone with those few lenses affected), can you cite any example of a lens being non-functional because of incompatibility with the chip in the lens? Especially if the lens was the camera manufacturer's own product?

I'll back KEH... I use them often.
Good peeps... when trading with them if you understate the condition of your trade-in, I have seen them pay over the quote once they inspect it.
Anything over EX+ (Excellent Plus) is near new per my experience.

This past weekend I looked at an 8mm fisheye from Sigma for Canon that locks up any digital camera you put it on. They say it can not be re-chipped and will only work on EOS film cameras.
My point was that this situation will mostly get worse instead of better, that's all. Look at all the lenses coming out now that will only work on 1.6 sensors. Those lenses will not work at all on full frame sensors, already making then an issue if you want to upgrade your camera.

| I mostly use Fredmiranda.com... Pawn shops can be fun too, particularly if you're looking for older mount stuff (i.e. m42 screw mount...) |

I have bought each of my cameras used from fredmiranda.com, and most my lenses. Rarely have I purchased anything brand spankin new as I just cannot afford it. I've never had any trouble with fredmiranda.com or the sellers there.
When I do purchase something new, it comes from B&H, or Sigma4Less.com |
