I've just been on a bit of a trip and tried my hand at a few landscapes... one of which I like, but it bugs me, something's wrong. A few comments would be most welcome on this one.

The differences in lighting here is one thing that makes it difficult to produce a pleasing image. The grasses on the left are a little over exposed while the area to the right is under exposed.

There is no definite subject to land your eye upon either. Often, that works, but only when there is a "path" for the eye to follow. Not a footpath, but a path that your eye follows from one area of the photograph through another area and then another. Nothing flows here, I just keep bouncing from area to area.

Clear skies look great to me in person, but in a photo nothing beats some dramatic clouds, expecially when the sun is low. And this brings up another point, this shot appears to have been taken around midday. That is when the sun is at it's highest point and it's harshest. Try shooting landscapes shots within two hours of sunrise and sunset for much better lighting.

Try looking through the well executed landscape photos on this site to see what was done differently and read the comments. You might also read through this thread run by Bear Music which is a comprehensive course in landscape photography by itself.

Good luck and keep at it.

The ice fishing farm shot is a much better shot IMO. I don't feel as suffocated while looking at it. There is a flow to follow from the bottom left to the upper part of the photo.

Great subject, a slightly lower viewpoint with emphasis on maybe just one stack could have improved this, rule of thirds could come in here?
Time of day is one of the most important things with landscapes, early morning or late afternoon/evening for the best light.
Invest in a circular polarizer, really makes these type of shots sing.
Hope this helps a little,
Your first pic has too much sky in my opinion and lacks any main subject in the foreground. check out one or two of the landscape threads for more details, some great pointers there.
keep shootin you will get there,
well done,
Paul.
