YAY JEB!!!!!!!!!!!!
01/15/2007 07:13:57 AM · #1102
Speaking of procrastination I finally got around to putting my Dpc goals up for 2007, and it's still January, that's pretty good for me.

Congratulations NikonJeb!!!!
And what a beautiful photo! It was one of my top picks in the challenge. I know you said your mentor has helped a lot, but you still have to set the shot up and click that shutter, my friend :-) In other words, take some credit for an amazing photo!

Thanks, Catherine!

Hey, my point is that I actually knew that photograph was going to be decent when I took it and I knew what to do to put the finishing touches because Sean has been working with me giving me tips and basically being there at the other end of the phone and e-mails when I had another question or for support when I'd get frustrated trying to do something.

I actually did everything with that picture all by myself from the very first when I set the aperture and shutter speed to take the pic in RAW, download it, touch it up a little, and enter it.

To top it all off, I had it entered two days before the deadline which is a major improvement for me. I'm usually the one that gets his entry in at 11:45!

So, yes, I'll take the credit, be proud of myself, and keep on keepin' on, but the improvement, confidence, and fun level has increased exponentially for me since my stumbling into DP Challenge.

Oh, and in case I haven't mentioned it six times already, you guys here have helped me, too.

You know, the little things like the support, teaching me that little trick about setting my camera to store a jpeg, sending in my validation entry early......all that helped to make this even better.

Thanx!

What does it mean to suck ?

It means feeling sadness at sending my old 0.3mp Vivitar off to live with another.
It means feeling proud of my OOF photos, and exstatic when I get a photo that̢۪s actually sharp.
It means that if I ever score above 5.0 someone had best call the paramedics as I̢۪m going to have heart failure.

And yes, it means I counted the words !

OK, I want a mentor. Who wants to help out a guy that really sucks?

I want a mentor, too! And I want someone like NikonJeb's mentor cutlassdude70, 'cause his photos rock!

Okay I really suck :( I need a mentor also or I need to put the camera down and take up kniting. I also suck at essays so if someone who like to help that would be great send me a message.

I'd like a mentor too.

But while I'm here can I quietly mention that I got accepted to do a Bachelor of Photography at uni, I'm a bit proud of myself and a lot scared and a little bit stressed about finding a job so I can buy a dSLR in the next 6 weeks...oh well I'll come up with something I'm sure. Oh and mostly I'm so excited that I can't think of anything else :)

Edit to add: I forgot to tell them that I suck.

Mostly photos of toilets, it seems.

Hey noraneko, do you still have the two 6's going?

Hey Everybody, I just got photoshop CS2. I can see there is going to be a learning curve between that and PSP. HELP!!!!!!!

I wanted to try and adjust the gamma and it's not there. The help files say that I have to go to Image Ready for that. What is image ready used for and why is there no magic wand in image ready? Why can't I just do that from within Photoshop?

Yeah, you're right - toilets, remotes, fights, $$$....glad I went the way I did though.

Oh yeah, I finally have a tripod, my bf bought me one Sat. night! YAY!

Depends on what you mean by gamma - it is in PS CS2, under Image, Adjustments, Exposure. If that's what you're talking about. And PS is a huge learning curve that never ends. But it's fun!

Wildlife is going to be difficult. The animals have to be in a natural setting so that means that the zoo is out.
01/15/2007 11:20:34 AM · #1122
And oh by the way, I'm contemplating a perfectly sucky (sub-5, even) entry into motion panning, just so everyone can say "WTF?" when they comment. Or I've got a rather plain jane one that sorta meets the challenge.

And the only wildlife in these here parts that I've seen are pigeons. And Sir Thomas, the Holy Terror Cat from Hell. But I suspect that both will be DNMC.

Edit to add that zoos are NOT out. You just need a zoo that provides appropriately natural-LOOKING settings. Of course, I haven't read the description yet, but I don't think shooting at a zoo is a DQ-able offense, is it?

Congrats, bmartuch!

Imageready is for making animated gifs and image maps and stuff like that. You won't need it for dpc editing.

I wonder if by gamma you mean the monitor calibration? That you'll find in your start manu -> settings.

There are a lot of really cool PS tutorial movies you can watch - you'll get the hang of it in no time ;-)

01/15/2007 11:22:07 AM · #1124
I think that you could still use a zoo animal. Quite a few are set in natural-like habitats now. So long as you don't include an obviously man-made structure in the shot you should be fine.

Not meeting the challenge is never DQ-able, so no ;)
