Well, wavelength's thread got me to thinking about flashy stuff, and I think someone in the thread mentioned a slideshow.
I thought that'd be a neat feature, so I coded it up. It's fairly early and rough at this point, but check it out on my DPCmod page. You'll need FireFox with the GreaseMonkey extension installed (directions on said page).
This screenshot shows the new "slideshow" button which shows up on the results page:
And there's even a little something in it for langdon... All images loaded by the slideshow are dynamically mirrored through my site. In other words, no real bandwidth hit to DPC.
Of course, if I get anywhere near my bandwidth limit, I'm cutting you guys off. Sorry. =)
I admit, this really isn't web 2.0, nor is it as impactful as profile images in the forums, but it's fun, and a click-less way to watch the excellent shots go by.
If you hate it... blame wavelength. =)
Cheers,
-Jeff
PS - I'd love to hear whether it works on your browser (version of FireFox), and if anyone really wants it for Trixie in IE (I wrote it mostly compatible, but got a little lazy at the end =)
PPS - For those technically interested, this script made me realize that I'm not limited to data found on a given page (as I thought before) - I can use ajax to load any page on the site to create the scripts. This one loads the challenge results page with the "show all results" flag. Juicy! =)

*yawn* I'd like to see it work for someone else before I go to bed. =)
Just one confirmation - send me to bed - any takers. =)
PS - the fireworks challenge is fun to watch in slideshow format. It's like you made it to every New Year's party in the world!

I just installed it and it seems to work fine with no problems. |

Works fine with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8.0.9) Gecko/20061206 Firefox/1.5.0.9
Only oddity thing I noticed was loss of login/password when I did go to login, but then again I did install the mod when I was logged out.
Does clicking the image advance the next frame or was I imagining it?
Is there a way to adjust timing of the slideshow?

I think you imagined it. It didn't seem clickable to me. That along with a timer that you suggested would be the next logical improvements. Maybe we can make a long list to give smurfy more work! :P |

Thanks, Brad. You were imaginining it. =)
There was a way to adjust the speed in my development version, but it wasn't working quite right, so I removed it. It's touchy though, because it could suck up bandwidth pretty quick.
Maybe in another version... But I'm really going to bed now! =P |

BTW - this works for all completed challenges, so browse the archives, too.
When thinking about what to enter in Motion Panning II, it may be helpful to go back and watch a slideshow of Motion Panning.
The speed, btw, is 10 seconds per shot and may be slowed by bandwidth issues on your end or my end. |

Sweet Trick, I bet with enough work, you could hack DPC to come up entirely as you design, just re-arrange the content. Sort of make a DPC-mirror system. Sweet.

Works fine on Firefox 2. Well done and thanks for your effort. |

This is the first I'd seen of your scripts. Nice work. One issue with the New Comments Highlighter, though. It doesn't work if you don't have any Portfolio images (which means it doesn't work for non-Paid users, either.)
I've got a fix already done if you're interested. |

Yeah - now the tough part is deciding what's really worth doing. The site is pretty great, but there're always 1 or 2 little tweaks that could make it more interesting.

Works well. I don't care for the bright BG of the display. I'd LOVE to see it display on black (I always like that, everything looks cool) but at least a darker gray... I think the 10-second interval is too long. Ideally, we could set our own interval and pause it or advance it at will, but this may be too much to ask, I donno. Still, very cool!

Hey Robert,
I had all those things in mind when I first wrote it, but just didn't have time to get them in.
Well now there's a version 1.1 which includes all these features!
- 4, 8, or 12 second interval
- Play, pause, forward, and back controls
- Black or white background
- Still has full/window mode
- Remembers your settings
The black schema may still need a little work, but I'll save that for another day. =)
You can get it from the DPCmod page.
Cheers,
-Jeff

had not noticed this before, and I must say I really like it. The only thing I would like to see is if I could click on them to be able to comment. Great job as always. |

I wish this was something built-in on the website.
So when will there be a IE version? |

You're gonna force me to go find and load Firefox, aren't ya? I'm just another lazy IE user - it's easy, I know it, it works. But I hear all these things about cool "add-on" features that only work with Firefox... Sigh. I'm gettin' too old to learn new stuff! :-) |
