You may want to clear out of there for a day or two and see if the fire department can come check things out. You could offer to do portraits of their pets in exchange for their services. You may also want to clear the animals out of there, too. If it's bothering you that much, it's probably not good for them either. Keep us informed! |

Thanks everyone. Linda do let us know how its going over the next few days. That gas thing sounds scary and unsafe to be around. Will your insurance pay for temporary lodging? |

Thanks for getting this going Kelly!

omg - you guys are too much! I can never thank you enough for your help. I finally broke down and had a good cry. I think I really needed that.
The heating guy is here now to fix the lines. Not only did they get pulled loose, but the one from the tank is cracked right where it meets the house wall. He has not gone under the house yet to see if there is any diesel spilled under there. We're hoping it is only on the outside of the wall. Either way, due to the amount of diesel spilled, EPA has to be notified by their company and will come out to sample the ground. There will have to be some clean up - just not sure how much yet or the price tag it'll come to. The heating guy did say I definitely will need to have my homeowners insurance cover it. I have the windows and doors opened a crack to try and get the fumes out a bit without freezing myself. The wood stove has the temp to 62 degrees so it's not too bad. The furry critters are in a room upstairs that I usually keep them out of, as that is the only room that has been kept closed and so the fumes didn't get bad in.
I wont be able to get fuel delivered until tomorrow, but I've got enough wood to last me through the day/night.
I still have to get someone over here to go up on the 2-story house top and get rid of the ice/snow before there is anymore damage. It probably wont be until the morning. I've already told the boss I'll be in late as I'm having a crisis here. |

Put me down for $30, and Linda: be careful with all the fumes and leaked fuel and fire - those are the ingredients for an even worse disaster.

finally some good news - none of the fuel spilled under my crawl space...or at least not that can be seen. So I only have to worry about the 100-150 gallons that spilled into the snow on the side of the house. I'm going to go scoop it up into my truck and hide it ..errr haul it away before the EPA comes around this week to take their samples. The less they find traces of the less costly to me. Anyone want some slightly contaminated snow?
More good news - the heating guy told me about a different fuel company that would deliver fuel to me within an hour today. So now I wont have to wait until Monday to get heat. All I have to do now is dump some bad snow, and get the guys here in the morning to remove the rest of the ice/snow build up off the roof before anything else gets damaged.
Oh - and fix the propane line/tank for the stove |

Have you thought about putting the snow in your wood stove? It might burn the evidence away. And give you some humidity at the same time. LOL!
Glad to hear things are looking up already. Hopefully things will keep improving. Don't forget to put a shield of some kind over your tank so it doesn't happen again.

lol - burning it in the wood stove would be good if the melting ice/snow wouldnt extinguish the fire.
I am bracing 2x4's with a piece of plywood nailed to them against the house at an angle....kinda like a ramp that will launch the ice/snow oover and beyond the tank and lines |
