ok zeuszen I am finding this interesting and I have been looking around at some sites on the internet. Would you recommend "metropolis" as a good entry to the genre? as I am very interested to learn more about it.
And while your on a role how about this one? or does it need to be darker?

some thoughts on this.....
Proposed title - Film Noir a cine genre would have the connotation of films which were also made in colour - "crime fiction featuring hard-boiled cynical characters and bleak sleazy settings" Noir alone would be dark w/also dark psychological undertone, often b&w as ZZ has shown in his fine examples.
ursula's example of "Metropolis", I would perceive as an influence, a b&w masterpiece, but really an expensive art deco science fiction extravaganza, but prior to the historical timeline of the Hollywood low budget sleazy category.

Some alternate examples with a quality of Film Noir on dpc that comes to mind might include this DrJone's:
